It was in the early 90's. I was in a 1985 Toyota 4x4 pu. Looked down at the speedo and it was sitting on 110mph. Thing is, I was on a 2 lane road coming from Culpeper to Fredericksburg.Oh, and it was around 10pm in November...

Sometime in 1965, in a '54 Chevy Bel Air 4-door with the Blue Flame six & 3-on-the-tree. Trying to outrun a cloud of smoke, no doubt.

Oh yeah, you just reminded me Stocker. I broke a hundred in a Kia Sephia (rental) on a road trip from Colorado back to Connecticut. I didn't do 100 all the way of course, mostly in the Plains states where you really didn't see much for miles. I pulled that trip off in less than 33 hours only stopping for gas and snacks. Oh yeah, I also did that whole trip solo. Must have been nuts, I'll never do that again.

I don't remember the first time. Probably around 14 in my grandfathers 81 buick lesabre (car was a definite sleeper, po did some amazing stuff to the motor).
I do remember when I finally found out just how fast I WAS going though. I was 15, coming back from platte city to leavenworth (home town / in my grandfathers car). I didn't know that a cop had been trying to pull me over since platte city where I had done 45 in a 35 (whoops). He was in an unmarked car. My friend and I were coming back from kansas city after skipping school for the day, and we were trying to get back in time to not get caught skipping.
I was driving like a maniac. You wouldn't believe me, but that boat could take some turns.
Well. I noticed that this car was trying to keep up with me, and I thought that it was just somebody racing. Until I got to leavenworth. Then I thought that they were following me for some reason.
My friend and I decided that we would take 3 left turns and that if he was still behind us we would get out and kick his a$$. Well, 3 turns later and he's right behind us. We stop to see what is going on, and the guy rolls up waving a badge at us (whoops). THEN I see the red light in the dash (whoops again). He told me that he was doing 160 and that I was pulling away from him. He asked me if I knew what would happen to somebody if I had hit them going that fast (whoops times 4).
I made up this crazy story about how I thought that he was chasing me and that people had chased me before and that I was scared that he was somebody that was going to try to kick my a$$ because that is what they did.
That was when he said that "If it wasn't for the paperwork, I would haul you in right now. Get the F*** out of here!" I will never forget those words. I haven't played the lottery since that day, since that would most definitely be the luckiest day of my life.
Verbal warning for over 160 in a 55.

my first time going 100 was about 16 years ago when one of cousins drove a targa top Porsche home from california. I looked ain and saw A 160 mile speedo and made the statement that i had never been 100 miles and hour in a car. he simply replied well lets fix that. for good measure we did 120 mph. later I think the first time i drove 100 mph I was in a slammed nissan mini.

First time for me was in 2003... Me and a few other kids from my school took an auto-tech class at a different school 10 miles away. Coming back to school after class we would regularly cruise about 80 on the back paved roads. The 89 GMC with a 350 and overdrive tranny did pretty good. It only had an 85 MPH speedo, but I'm sure I was around 100 MPH a few times. I never wanted to push it any harder because it was my dad's truck and yes trucks do shake at that speed! Oh yeah and there was still plenty of pedal left....

must have been a hell of a le sabre to do above 160mph. i had a built big block 66 charger with nitrous and over 25 grand in it and it would only go about a max of 137 with 3.23 gears then even less when i made the change to 4.11 gears. got too scary at that speed anyway.

Re: First time you hit 100mph ?

Back when I was 13 I "borrowed" my parents 94 GMC Safari minivan in the middle of the night with a friend to go joy riding. On an old 2 lane country road the speedo stopped at 100 and the needle stopped maybe 10mph further before it tapped the dash. Probably not the brightest thing I've done but it sure was fun at the time. Had no idea a 4.3 v6 brick shaped minivan could do that but it didn't really to seem to have to much difficulty getting there.

back in 1995 built a 67 Peterbilt 351 with a 3406b cat turned up to 3100 rpm(because we truck pulled it some) with a Rto-12513 13 speed & 1241 aux both overdrive with 3.70 rears. had it up to 114 mile an hour to see what it would do.that was plenty fast enought for me in a big truck.

Re: First time you hit 100mph ?

also back in the 80's on a newyears day got a ticket for 105 in a 77 Ford ltd. we had all went to lunch and on the way back there had just paved a long road with no other car on it, and had this teenage boy in the backseat that was getting scared when was at 75 so I just turn around looking at him rather than the road to shake him up more, and open it up. along way ahead I see someone walk out in the road.it was a cop pointing to the side of the road. he was not happy at all. started to carry me to jail, but end up giving me a ticket.

Re: First time you hit 100mph ?

haha dusty thread!

My first 100+ was high school in a friend's Ford Escort. Talk about a couple of no brain sardines shimmy'ing in a tin can!

I've seen the other side of 160 in a T-bucket with a 6-71 small block. That was no fun either.

My first car was a '79 Lincoln with a 400. It was a land yacht that cruised real nice at 105-110. Back when MT highway speeds were "safe and prudent" doing 90 passed highway patrol only garnered attention if your rig looked unsafe. Otherwise no biggie.

Smile Re: First time you hit 100mph ?

Ha, great old thread indeed.
My first 100mph was when I was 17 and had my parents 75 Pontiac Gran Prix with a 455/4/duals out on a trip over to Vancouver.
Now, that car was too heavy to be much off the line, but once rolling that big 455 in that car would really pull.
Now, me and a buddy were coming back from Vancouver in different cars heading to the ferry. I was in the Gran Prix and my buddy had a 71 Camaro ss with a well warmed, re-jigged, balanced 350 LTI.
I got the jump on him by running an early yellow light, leaving him back at the red light (several miles away from the ferry) and went flat out to get ahead....I had well ticked off 100+ (nearing 110 on the speedo) when he went decisively by me....lol.
To be honest I didn't think I would see him until we got to the ferry but that Camaro was quick and we were both surprised at how that thing would run.
Luckily I'm way over that now...waayy more mature...lol.
Still here, and hopefully smarter.
all Good

Re: First time you hit 100mph ?

Well now it was a dark and stormy night. Wait wrong story.
It was a warm and sunny summer night, my friend had a 72 Gremlin yes a Gremlin, factory 304/3sp car. We hit 100 with the fender tops flapping the whole time (they where prone to rusting). That car could bake the tires all the time of there was no rear end weight. It was interesting watching the sparks fly off the tire studs.

My 76 Chevy 4x4 truck broke down and I had to get my girlfriend home before curfew , My dad had a brand new ( I MEAN SPANKING BRAND NEW ) 79 Chevy custom ordered black and white with red interior 454 dually sitting in the drive way they had just delivered that day . he was out for the night still driving his 74 camper special so I pulled my plates and pulled the speedo cable and off I went 30 miles away . i dropped my girl off and on the way home I saw my dad heading home on the adjacent highway ! I stomped on that 454 and cut corners on every back road to beat him home by seconds ... backed the truck in and pulled the tag off just in time . I was sitting in it playing with the am/fm/cb radio when he pulled in ! I kept that secret for 20 years and when I finally told him he said " I already knew ! I had to reinstall the speedo cable the next day!"

Re: First time you hit 100mph ?

Late 80's in a 76 Scout the thing actually drove better at that kind of speed. My personal best was 203mph on GSXR 1100 turbo a friend had. In the early 90's I got a ticket for 161mph in a 45mph zone in a supercharged Tunedport S-10 I built. Funny thing is now my wife is always yelling at me to speed up, says I'm gonna get us killed driving so slow.

Re: First time you hit 100mph ?

Back when I owned my 57 Chevy 283 ,,220 hp I did get it up to 100 mph and maybe a bit more ,speedometer needle was bouncing around a lot ,,so ??? and with a friend or two ,,but it always was a piece down the road before reaching the 100 mph mark..

Anyway,,, been years since I was up to a 100 mph until about month ago when My nephew took me for a ride in a new Vette that a guy had him touch up a place on the body with new paint ,,which my nephew does

We took off from a dead start and the G force was so strong that I really thought for a moment (and that's all the time you have to think,,a moment) that I was maybe going to be dizzy,, Really ! that sucker was so fast and so quick to reach a 100 ,,that then and there I knew this was the fastest car I had ever riddin in.. I believe it was a 2014-16 ... E-Force Corvette Supercharger 599 HP
