i want to get some brighter headlights on my 85'. can anyone give me some ideas on what to get? maybe even an hid kit. i dont want to be spending a lot of money on it though. thanks.

Don't get an hid kit if your not going to spend tho money setting them up right

What you can do is buy relays and sylvaina halogens and that will get a nice increase in output, that alone is usually enough for everyone

We have a vendor here that has a really nice kit already assembled and ready to rock and roll. 1973-1987 Chevy & GMC Dual Headlight HD Headlight Harness

After that a quality bulb to go with it. There are a few options. To answer your other question first Silverstars are brighter than extra vision.

HIDs should be done with a fairly high level of care and detail. There are some great threads here... First Second

Another option are H4 conversion lenses. For your upper Hi/Low lens, and your lower High lens. Those will allow you to run H4 & H1 capsule bulbs of which there are a LOT more options than sealed beams. The Sylvania/Osram Night Breaker and Philips Xtreme Power (XP) are the first two that come to mind that perform very very well. Built for go, not show. Though I think Philips phased some of them out, might be hard to find.

Unless you live in the sticks or go off road you don't need hids,Honestly a good set of h4 lights with the relay harness will be more then enough light.On the h4 lights stick to big name brands like hella ipf delta.Another thing for night driving get led dash lights you will be able to read the gauges easy with them.

classic industries sells some h4 lenses for about 22 bucks a piece. do you think those would be any good?

Just depends what brand they are and how the reflector is made.The cheaper brands will have a terrible light pattern and or fog up over time.Look around online for hella brand 4x6 ebay amazon etc etc see how cheap you can get them.

what about the autopal h4 lenses? they are made of metal and glass instead of plastic.

If they are e code get them,Basicly e code means euro and they are made a little better vs the dot aka us versions.

See that blue text in my earlier post? The ones that say Low and High beams? Those link to the E-Code Hellas that andrew just mentioned...they are available on amazon/ebay/etc, just look for those key terms. I've compared the Autopal and the Hella, one in each hand...yes the Autopal are metal and glass, but the quality just isn't there compared to Hella or Bosch.

I have the cucvs and they come with perhaps the dimmest headlights made.. I went out and got the Sylvania silverstar Ultra jobbies and they work great even in the woods they are a tad pricey tho compared to what I remember paying for a headlight a few years back

Regardless of what bulb setup you choose, these are the relay's you'll want to use. The fuse is built into the relay, which will eliminate the need for those in-line fuses. Saves a buck, and cleans up a little unnecessary wiring. Used them on my H4 conversion.

I was going to go HID but decided not to for now, due to more complexity and higher cost. Probably will later, since now everything to support them is already installed. You could do the same and just make the easy switch to HID when you've got more money. I can say the H4's are a night and day difference over the stock junk, though.

I recommend Sylvania Silverstar they are bolt in option, and make a huge difference. I have had mine in for about 9 years now and still going strong.

Relays and the sylvania's are the best bang for the buck. You could probably just do relays and not believe how much better it is. That is if low bucks is the goal. If " what's the cheapest projector setup that gives awesome results, with modern looks, at the best price" is your goal, then I have no clue. stay classy

i have silverstars and relays in my headlight harness, no kidding i can see more than 1/2 a mile with my brights on, there is no need to get too fancy, i have about $115 in mine, including $100 dollars worth of headlights

I tried Silverstars and YES, they are an improvement, but for me not enough to see the deer that are out there. I went to a different path and purchased a set of lights from Vision X lighting wholesale. http://www.visionxwholesale.com/ This gave me a metal light recepticle to put updated light bulbs into. I chose to go full bore and put in 80/100 watt bulbs with a wiring harness to take the wattage load off of my headlight switch and now I see everything quite well. These light housings have internal covers for the bulb to keep the light from blinding oncoming drivers. I have the four headlight bulb set on my truck and I replaced all of them.

So to do an h4 conversion, what all do i need to buy and how do i hook it all up?

You do have the dual 6x4 headlamps, correct? Check out that lighting upgrade harness I posted earlier, it is strongly advisable to either build one of those or buy something similar.

Sorry for jumping in here but while on the subject... I have some sylvaina halogens on my truck.. Can you help me out.. What type of relays would I need for them.. My truck is single head lamp..
