Re: You Chose a Blazer/Jimmy - WHY?

Cool thread!!!!

Very interesting stories, but In my case I didn't choose to own a K/5 Jimmy, my Mom did in 1971. It saved our lives in 1972. In 2001 when Mom was having trouble getting up in to it at the age of 78 she gave it to me. It is my responsibility to take care of this family member now and I am slowly nursing the Jimmy back to health. My turn to save Jimmys life.

Later---DAC

Re: You Chose a Blazer/Jimmy - WHY?

My uncle took me cruisin' in his 402bb 2wd when I was younger. That got me into the body style and coolness that is 67-72. Then several years later he purchased a K5 to rebuild. Several more years later he pulls into my driveway with it and thats when the bug really bit me. There it was lookin' all cool with in red.... Pulled it down under one of my shade trees and we did some work on the stereo. I think I put a amp in it. Without the motivation/advice and parts and blazers (2 so far), lol, I wouldn't have what I got. So I have to say thanks to jamie72!

Re: You Chose a Blazer/Jimmy - WHY?

A buddy of mine had been buggin' me about a co-worker that had "some old Blazer" rotting away in his backyard down in Corpus-Christi (back when I lived in Houston). I had just finished up building my Frontier for wheelin' a few months before and was itching for another project. I always like the 71/72 Chevy K10s so I figured it would look like that. When I first laid eyes on it looking sad under a tree almost 4 years ago I had never even seen the '69/70 style grille. I wasn't sure I liked it but the price was good at the time and I was told that it ran decent. I stewed over it for a week or two then decided to go ahead and get it so I could restore it. I was looking for a permanent residence at the time and figured I would have a garage a month or two after I bought it. Took me another 3 years to get a house and garage.

I went to get it and it didn't run decent, needed a fuel pump just to get out of the yard it was in, and left me on the side of the road about 7 miles later. Half the lights did not work, the carb accel pump was shot, the radiator was plugged, water neck was leaking, and only the left front brake worked! What was I thinking?!?!? It has been a money pit ever since.

At least I am working on it though, and I can drive it around without worrying about being stranded on short drives (now that I know when it craps out again it's the HEI module again). LOL.

Re: You Chose a Blazer/Jimmy - WHY?

I was buying an old Blazer to part out for a swb. The day I got it I took it home and parked it. A few days later I decided to get started and so I took the top off first. Well, since it was running, I took it down to the store right quick just to see what I was tearing up. By the time I got back home, I was trying to figure out how to get the top back ON! That was '92, I now have 3. I parted out the swb. To this day I have no interest in a regular truck. Big blocks are another story.

That's a good story. When I first went to look at mine I had no idea that 1st gens were convertibles. When I got it home my dad mentioned how cool they looked with the top off and so off it went and it stayed off for a while too.

Well I have had 4.5 in the last 7 years, so it's a disease,
one of these days I will grow up and have 1 that's done.

PS - My ramble was just a lame excuse for another bump
