Some are better than others. I had a 2004 extra cab long bed Ram with a 5.9 cummins and live axle. A bit tedious to maneuver in tight spots. But with the diesel I could fuel up at truck stops if I was pulling something. That was another nice thing about the diesel.

Re: Need some advice from you guys on what size truck to buy

I tow for a living ive had all three major brands and ive had both gas and diesel. The only NEW truck I would buy right now is a cummins powered dodge ram and for any kind of towing I would buy a diesel the mileage and power is so much better. In your case id get a 2500 diesel whatever you buy

Re: Need some advice from you guys on what size truck to buy

Just a second thought. I have had two Ram Cummins diesels. I agree with old rusty C10 as to it being the best tow vehicle out there. However, I had a 30 ft toy hauler that was about 9000 lbs with a dresser in the garage. Pulled it 6000 miles around and across the USA over a two month period. Great truck. When I sold the toyhauler and the motorcycle because my wife could no longer walk without a walker, I found it over kill for the occasional towing I did pulling a smaller camper similar to yours (about 5500 lbs) and a 22" enclosed car trailer that is about 7-7500 lbs loaded. A 3/4 ton and a diesel will always be the best tow rig, but maybe not the best vehicle for everyday which is 95% of its use. A half ton is easier for us older people to get in (especially because my wife has some physical issues) and cheaper to run on a daily basis. It will pull up to about 8000 lbs without a problem when properly equipped and engined which is probably all you need.
