Heater stopped working, blowing fuses, melted the wire connector

Hi everyone
Recently I broke the arms on my heater (no ac) so I got the unbreakable levers from Brothers. I put them on a week or two ago and all was good.
Today I noticed my heater wasn’t on and the fuse was blown. I put a new fuse in and it blew right away.
I looked at the wires that plug into the switch and it was a little bit melted at the bottom most terminal

I will need new wiring harness for the heater, but do you think also I need a new switch? Or whole new heater control? Is there something else that may be or is likely the culprit?

I would replace the switch too. I would also check the heater resistor located in the heater duct. (follow the wires to it) It may be shorted inside. I can't remember if the screws are 1/4" or 5/16", 5/16" I think. Careful when you remove it, the wire coils are pretty fragile.

A heater motor that is dragging or squirrel cage that is full of mouse nests might cause the electrical components to overheat too.

Ok cool that all makes sense. I was recently in the heater core box on the outside so no rats in there lol

Re: Heater stopped working, blowing fuses, melted the wire connector

I had an extra wiring harness so I decided to hook it up. Blew a fuse again, a little smoke from the fuse box and the switch on the heater control was hot. I’m going to get a whole new assembly to see if that fixes it.. the reconditioning kit I used looks kinda ****ty anyway with the sticker decal .

Let us know if that cures the fuse problem.

X2 on that, also if the motor is older and electrically worn it will pull more amps to keep it working and do exactly like blowing fuses.
