Barn Find Started Up Today

After 25 years sitting in a barn, I finally got it to fire off today. Amazing what new plugs and wires and a rebuilt distributor will do. Now I gotta make it road worthy!

Nice looking ride
Have you changed the brake hoses and wheel cylinders yet

Re: Barn Find Started Up Today

No I have not replaced anything else yet. Looks like its gonna need brakes, hoses and maybe even tires since these look to be dry-rotted a bit. BUT, at least its running.

Re: Barn Find Started Up Today

I plan on washing it down with CLR, then I guess ill figure out how to keep it from rusting any more than it already has. Eventually it'll get a full restoration. Got a little research to do first.

I believe there are some threads here on the forum about that.
Keeping them out of the weather is key as well

Re: Barn Find Started Up Today

The only thing wrong with this thread is there are isn't enough photos. Everyone knows we are photo junkies here.

Very nice find. Engine? Transmission?

I got mine running so it would move under its own power and then turned to suspension/steering/brakes. About to get that done and it will now be more focus on the GO part.

Looks to be a fantastic place to start.

Re: Barn Find Started Up Today

I've done a few vehicles and cannot emphasize enough how one that can move under it's own power (and stop) is worth a mint during the resto process. Do all that makes sense while it is self-mobile, then get some wheel skates, given your working on concrete. Then get it mobile again. Of course, I've always had tight quarters to work in and the project had to be moved often to make room for other things... sure wish I had warehouse space to take it all apart and spread out for the duration.

I envy your project...more details please.

Re: Barn Find Started Up Today

Will get more photos when I get back off night shift. As far as details go... it’s a factory shortbed with the 283 V8, 3 on the tree and a factory 3.73 gear in the rear. Other than that, it’s a base model farm truck.

Like a fool, I sold it two years ago. Since my divorce, I have attempted to find it and buy it back. Toolbox/ Fuel cell before paint. Was red!

Re: Barn Find Started Up Today

Hey I've never seen that before.

What a great idea!

I would think that would be easier to install and plumb than way out back where my spare resides.

Mine is still in the cab with me.

So far so good though.

Re: Barn Find Started Up Today

I don’t know why some trucks get that “I just went through a hurricane“ look on the tailgate, but I love it.

Re: Barn Find Started Up Today

With this particular barn find, the rear/ tailgate was the only part sticking out of the barn. Surprisingly the tailgate is still in good condition tough.
