hey guys ,. ive got a few extremely nice pickup tops , wondering if anyone here has ever tried building theyre own half cab top ? whatsa your thoughts on it

i thought about useing a truck top but i think im going to use a junk double wall blazer top i got and try to make one i think it will be a little lighter also.
i have`nt really started working on it, yet thou.

Interesting thought--but then again, the reason I like the blazer is because I have more room inside then in a truck so a half cab just give me a REAL SWB pickup! (:>)

I'm doing the exact opposite. I have a 79 chevy pickup and I'm going to chop the top off to give it that Blazer effect. I also plan on dropping it and putting a tonneau on it. This will be a nice weather truck only of course

I will probably try to see if I can fabricate the top though in the future so that I will be able to bolt it back on if I want to.

I have made a half top out of a broken full top and a pu top. Married them together,alot of work. Also then you need to use pu doors. My advice would be buy the one on e-bay. Rick

thanks for the info guys , i lookeds at the one on ebay but it reminds me of a dodge for ome reason when i look at the back of it , ive seen a few of them that look like the actual pickup tops ,

MAC67,

The ones you have seen probably were pickup tops. Helped a friend back in the late Eighties, (after a roll over) Mod the posts top and rear of the cab onto his 72. It was done right and looked very nice. Although it does defeat the purpose of a Blazer. (Just my opinion). I have started through the hundreds of pics I have in a box (prior to Digital) to see if I cant find some of the mod. We will see.

One problem is the roll of the body when you do any off roading really creates stress on the cab. The body starts to act like a pickup and over time can create stress cracks not only in the metal but clear through to the paint. Remember once you go that way there is really no coming back, HEHEHE.

Also there is the little problem with the doors which was mentioned a little earlier.
