Yes, so far I am. Your build is looking great. I love the fab work and the direction you choose.

We'll I got most of the front-end tore apart. I only had to cut three bolts and found no rust except for surface.

Picture 3. You can see prior owner took a torch to make a hole for something. It shouldn't be to hard to repair. I can't decide on painting the inner fender wells the same color as the truck ( red ) or going black.

Re: Started my first frame off - 72 SWB LS1, 6-spd manual

Not sure how much you paid for the GM front clip but it looks like you got an excellent deal. That stuff is getting so hard to find rust free.
I went back and forth on painting my inner fenders, I finally decided just to do some sort of semigloss or semiflat black similar to what the factory look.
I just didn't think the red inners went with my "theme", whatever you call it. Anyway, I chose not to because I have a weak under the top power plant and nothing special stock engine. Don't really want to draw attention to the engine bay.
Your truck on the other hand has a high power engine and cool tranny. I think the red inners look great BTW.
Looking forward to updates......

Yes, it is getting harder to find. I was tempted a couple of times to buy a compete truck just for the front end but knew I would have paid to much.

I have been wanting to paint the inner fenders and core support same color as the truck but it's nice to get it confirmed with your opinions. I think I may have them powder coated black first and paint the engine compartment side of the inner fenders red so the tire side will keep the stock look. The PC will resist rock chips better too.

Re: Started my first frame off - 72 SWB LS1, 6-spd manual

Yesterday I stumbled across a CL add. I scored two more fenders and inner wheel wells off of a 68 CST long bed. This guy is parting out a fully optioned truck. The trim on the fenders protected all of the leading edges and no rust.

Re: Started my first frame off - 72 SWB LS1, 6-spd manual

Last night I removed all of the trim and started sanding. I am going to cover the side markers and weld up all of the trim and emblem holes.

Thanks! Those are nice and save time. Earlier in my build I bought a complete package for my firewall, fenders and top of my bed rails. Today I used some cardboard I had close by for a template.

Very nice score on the fenders. That stuff doesn't come around very often.

Thanks, you're right. I have been fortunate. I installed both fenders, core support and the grill tonight. It's amazing how well the original sheet metal lines up. I feel paint coming soon....

Looks like the CL panels are working out good. I'm jealous of all that rust free sheet metal.
That's super cool you are that close to getting it painted. Did your painter give you a turn around time?

Wow the front end looks great on there, I'm jealous of your rust free craigslist finds too. Great news on going to paint soon, maybe I missed it but what are you thinking for paint color.
