Can you rebuild a Detroit Truetrac ????

I broke the teeth off a couple of the end gears and need a rebuild kit? Do they offer one?

Re: Can you rebuild a Detroit Truetrac ????

i installed one in my friends 86 K10 about a year ago i was told they were not serviceable, as far as having clutch discs inside them, i asked because i was worried about availability, so i'll guess and say no... but on the other hand they may have replacement parts for that as its probly not the only one to ever break

Other than it breaking, how did you like the truetrac? Was it really smooth operating or noisey?

I never knew it had a truetrac in it until I took the cover off. I was not noisey at all. I guess it just isn't strong enough for 35" mud tire burnouts. It would be a good choice for a 2 wheel drive truck for sure.

Re: Can you rebuild a Detroit Truetrac ????

the one i put in went in an 86 K10 with 36"x14" super swamper TSL's and it has 4.10 yukon gears and a mini spool in the front... the 355 we biult for it grenaded before the axles have had a probleom

i was actully suprised to hear that one broke... he (my buddy) shifts into second all the time and sends it sideways in his truck... ive never seen another lifted 4x4 do burnouts and get squirley like this one either

That's what I always thought...they were nearly indestructible and have no clutches to burn out like a standard posi.

Re: Can you rebuild a Detroit Truetrac ????

trutracs are very reasonably priced anyway, so you might as well buy another one. i think there like $400 if i remember right??? like i said the one ive had experiance with haqs been through lots of abuse and never had any probleoms at all, so the one you broke must have been abused for quite a while before it broke.
