The way I look at it this is what old trucks are all about.Good old SBC tuned up.No vortecs or LS7 or 17 inch disco rims .Just good runners with detail and pride. CREPPING DEATH prime example

Here is my 69 shortbox. Has a mildly built 454 with a muncie m20 and 4:11 posi. I like when people ask me if it runs. It not only runs but it tears up the neighborhood pretty well too. Alot of fun to drive and i dont have to worry about door dings.

I've spent many a times just wondering about my 67 short step. How hard would it be to put a newer 6 speed auto behing my 472 caddy. just think, 6 areas of double rubber on the road.

I have only had one sleeper in my life. I took the 475hp SBC from my 80K20 and put it into an 84 Cutlass 4 door with trailer hitch, rusty doors and all. The 2800 stall convertor and 2.14 gears made it a real freeway burner. It would pass everything except Illinois emissions test.

these were a few farmtruck type sleepers when I was younger, but they were only sleepers if you didn't hear them running. the best two was a white mid 80's ford extended cab with a 351, very big solid lifter cam and a 250 shot of nitrous. I seen it run high 11's with 31" mud tires on the back. the other was a mid 80's blue chevy c10 with a nitroused 454, the main difference between it and the ford was that it was quiet and the ac still worked. the guy used to run it down the street with slicks on the back and since they were on rally rims with caps and rings that matched the front most people didn't even notice. he also towed his chevelle race car with it, chevelle ran low 9's truck on spray ran mid 10's

But, it has a stock 350 out of a 1976 pickup (which was one of the lowest performance 350's ever produced) so it's anything but fast.

This is Ol' Blue. I just set the removable welding skid on to go weld a broke hay mower. The welder is a 1954 lincoln shorthood. The specs are 350, bored .40 over, double hump heads and a granny 4 speed.

Mine's not exactly a sleeper; it says "400" right on the fender, and it surprises some people both in town and on the freeway, since it isn't quite stock. I'm thinking of starting up a woodworking shop now that I have retired. I'll need a truck (and it won't be a "newish" truck; I'm thinking early '60s step side). Of course, it will be all "faded" paint and such. It just depends on how much time I have. I also have a couple of hot rod Buicks to sell off before I get there. That ought to help the financing. We will see where that pipe dream leads.

Steevee- tell me about your 400...aside from an oil leak from hell (which I spend most of my time trying to locate- not a pleasant thread but there is one on it) I'm tickled to death with mine. Runs cool, starts easy....more torque than I need...stock displacement 2 bolt splayed mains hv oil pump 750 edelbrock/rpm airgap rv cam....a lot of ass for not much hardware. Cams small enough to not dick with my vacuum but still sounds insane. It's not running 10s on bias plys and a sm 465 but It runs on children's tears....and that's all that matters.

Hey thanks! Me and Ol' Blue have been together my whole life. My grandpaw bought it new and I bought it from him when I was 12. I've got the pickup box put up in the barn. I make my living with the truck and the flatbed serves me better. I'm a farrier and I have an aluminum body with all my horseshoing tools in it that sets down on the flatbed. It has one ton springs all the way around so heavy loads aren't a problem. That welder weighs 1350lbs.

Sorry for the late reply. I was up in the mountains camping and fishing. My buddy gave me that regulator. The regulator and pressure gauge both say Jegs on them. I set it at 5.5-6 but the gauge reads all over the place. It doesn't seem to be causing any problems so I don't mess with it.

325-350 hp, tremec 6-spd, 4.56 posi rear end. Not sure how fast it is yet- I am impatiently trying to bed in the brand new ring and pinion. And its a sleeper (even under the hood) unless its running. Gonna target 500 hp the next time I crack it upen with some more go-fast parts.

Nice. I need a set of wide wheels like you have on the back. I want to go back to the dog dishes but haven't been able to find any 8" wide wheels.

1985 GMC High Sierra 2500. 454 BBC with a 4 speed, 2WD. She'll tow any trailer out there and pass anything on the road except a gas station.
