73 Crossmenber in 72 Blazer

OK, I have searched for the thread but cannot find it. Heres what I am trying to do. I am putting a 502 in my Blazer. I got a 73 K5 crossmember at the junkyard. I plan on using ORD mounts. Has anyone Done this. I am going to use a TH400-205 with the 502. Anyone who has done this please tell me what I am in for. Muchos Grassy arse.

Orangevol also did a similar swap in his truck. I used the stock smallblock cross member. I may need to swap out in the future.

Yup, like Resto said..I did it.
I also used ORD engine mounts.
Take a look at the link Resto gave you.
Post up your questions.
Here is were I got the idea:

Two holes from the original crossmember will line up on the frame and you have to drill the rest. It was a very tight squeese for me to get the "frame horns" inside the C of the frame. Other than that it is nice to not have to pull the engine to drop the oil pan & I got to use ORD's engine mounts.

Later

Thanks guys. Nice link. Burt did you have to reroute your brake lines? From what I see One of the holes used is the hole for the front lines. The Passenger side tower fits in the frame rail but the drivers side tower is tough cause of how it sits on the member. any cutting? I havn't fitted the motor yet I am waiting for the tranny and transfer.

Re: 73 Crossmenber in 72 Blazer

See the empty hole right above the lower bolt head on the side of the frame. That is were my brake lines come thru. Yes I did install new lines that come from the P-valve to the sides of the frame. Then I installed Earls brand extended brake lines down to the calipers.
I had a hard time getting the frame horns inside the frame. What I did to help was cut the frame horn just on eather side of the top flat area were the holes are so I could bend the top of the frame horn down to get in inside the frame. I hope that makes sence...I don't have a pic...
Let me know if you need more...
Burt
