Information needed on LED side marker lights

know I saw a post on this before but I will be darn if I can find it...

I got a set of LED side marker lights for my 71... The standard side marker lights are a 2 wire set up and the LED's are a 3 wire... I know my Front lamps work with the turn signals...

How do I wire these to work correctly...

Thanks... Dan

Maybe this was it.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s....php?p=2122953

Here is the wiring diagram for the marker lights. On the early trucks they didn't blink. I think that the73 or 75 and up models they blinked.

Remember the polarity on LEDs is critical, if it's reversed the lights won't work.

it appears to be small so I'll see if I can find a larger one.

Talking Re: Information needed on LED side marker lights

71 and 72 front side markers blink with turn signals on backs don't. My 71 is all LED's and the side markers are just like the orignals.
I bought these and put the good LED bulbs in them.

Cool Re: Information needed on LED side marker lights

Here is mine. Front side markers have 2 wires and I assume one is parking lights since they come on with the parking lights and the other is the turn signal since they blink. I have never taken them apart to trace but it make since they are tied to the front parking lights wiring.

The rear are only one wire in and out to ground you can see in my pictures.
I have never changed the wiring on this truck it's as it came from Chevy.

All these video's where taken inside the garage in darkness!

Re: Information needed on LED side marker lights

Thank to all for the two wire information but this thread is about hooking up the 3 wire LED lights to the two wire system...

This is my point exactly.
My reason for the pictures and the info I thought would be helpful to you and 72kool. The factory never ran 3 wires to the front are back.

You bought a light that has three wires but your truck only has 2.
You will have to figure out which wires are which in your light setup. 1 wire will hook to the parking light wire of the truck, 1 wire will hook to turn signals of the truck the thrid wire will be ground for the LED's it self! LED's need a good ground to operate.

You will have to tie the rear light into the wire that is already there for the marker light. Which you will have to figure out which wire to tie to on the light. Then run new wires to each back marker to tie into the turn signals if you want them to flash. Then ground the lights them selves as my pictures show once you figure out which wires on the lights are for the grounds.
All my info is just common without knowing the lights that you bought and not being able to check them.

I had to get the flasher's when I put the front parking lights in. Before that everything worked without them.

Re: Information needed on LED side marker lights

ok so if i want led sidemarkers, that blink with the turn signal, i have to wire them each into a flasher and not just wire them into the blinker wire? just making sure. i know its a dumb question.

Flashers only on fuse block, refer to photos of mine above. I unplugged one Just to show what flasher looked like.

On my 72 rear side markers I connected the red wire from LED to the dark green, black to brown and white to ground.

Hope that helps .
