Is there something about where the West Coast mirrors should be located? I am not sure if something like that would be in the assembly manual or not. If so I guess I should buy one, unless someone can post it for me.

I was going to buy the from Wess at Classic, but he stopped selling them, but said the Grote ones are similar. They are similar and seem to be very well made, but the mounting locations are not the same, it seems, as the holes that are already in my door. I am not sure if I should try to make the existing holes work, or weld those holes closed and mount them where I want them. I am just wondering if the holes in the door are factory or not.

any or all of there holes may be different than OEM.

I am familiar with those mirrors but not in mounting them to a Suburban. They are very good quality mirrors. You can get replacement heads for them that are heated. Very nice on cold snowy days!

Sweet, thanks. Looks like the holes in the truck are factory, so I probably had camper mirrors from the factory.

Sweet! I saw heated mirrors on the Grote site, but I didn't see those particular ones. I will have to get those. I plan on using this in the winter as much as the summer, if not moreso

RPO DF2 for the stainless "Camper" mirrors.

These may not bolt up exactly to factory holes. The two factory lower braces are separate parts. On these replacements, as well as later GM, the lower braces are made as one piece. So, no option on spread between the two

They did bolt into the factory holes, but since the lower legs are a little shorter, it pulls the mirror down and they are at an angle now. You can also easily spread the holes and tweak everything. It looks terrible in the factory holes, but it is a mirror for now. it also vibrates a lot as I drive on the highway.

I have to figure out what I want in the end, as I don't really like them as much as I though I would, then I can close up all the holes in the door and put the vibration damper and sound damper, make some door panels.

There is a metal strap or connector that is welded inside the door. It connects the inside and outside of the door together. If it is cracked or broken it will allow the outer door skin to vibrate, making the mirror shake. I had to take my door apart and weld the connector back together to make my driver side mirror useable.... Just a thought.

Yeah, mine is probably broken. I was able to squeeze the inner and outer panel with my hand with the window down. Thanks for the tip! I'll have to fix that when I pull the glass out for weatherstripping

I'll probably go with real West Coast mirrors or something, I just don't like the campers now that I have one on there

If you are planning on replacing the weatherstripping at a later date you might want to read through this thread.

Yeah, you could flex the one piece lower brace assembly to fit holes, but I was saying it just won't work right...which you know by now

I saw that thread too, but it was hard for me to follow since I haven't started the process and I can't place the pieces with the instruction yet. I will definitely read through once I get into that.

I actually took off an aftermarket mirror and added the mirror that had what appears to be an original type mount. The holes for the camper mirrors were not factory so I filled them. I think this looks better and gives me the best of both worlds with the mirror I wanted with fewer holes in the doors! Got them from Brothers I think.
