test run on the longhorn....6 gears!

The weather was good enough to try out the Richmond trans! nice easy run(no plates ) Man thats a set of gears in that box. 3.28 1st x 4.10 gears really puts her low....hard to keep from barkin the tires under normal driving! 6th gear sets the tach @ 1500 @ 40mph. my first run would indicate that 3.73 s would be a better overall gear, but im gonna run her for a while & see how it goes. i still have a set of 3.40s.....but that booger would be flat flyin down the hyway @ 2500 in OD! Crazy L with a big

Actually the Chevy, but an old F1 would be cool too. I agree with ya, anything can be cool if you can hot rod it.

Well , the plates are on there.....but expired! When I was a little younger, I would buy 1 set of plates & use them on both cars(what the hell, I paid good money for them!) I was pretty cool with the old truck, but could feel the @ss scootin around on 3000 rpm lite throttle shifts ! man this is gonna be fun crazyL

I ordered the trans from Jegs on a Mon morn, & it arrrived on a Wed afternoon. I like jegs prompt service! usually 2 days shipping to my spot in Illinois! The 6 spd is one of the more pricey ways to go O/D, but should be a real tough box. (its on borrowed money, so it will only hurt a little at a time!) My guess is that the longhorn wont get the milage that it should, as that 383 has always been "thirsty" at the gas pumps! I may also swap the rear gears for a mid 3s set, to drop the revs a little more on the road, & will still have way plenty of gear to dance out of the hole. the spacing on the gears is about like a close ratio muncie box (from 2nd through 5th), with 1 st being 3.28, & o/d @ .76 . I think its gonna be a lot of fun crazyL

Sounds sweet. That sure would surprise an uninformed passenger, seeing you go through 6 gears.

Hey CrazyL..whats the ratio of 2nd gear? Might be able to keep the 4.10s, if you just use 2nd through 6th...of course 1st can be reserved when you have to spank a yuppie in a new vette or beamer

2nd is 2.14......that might work Jim! I ran a 2.20 muncie box with 3.73 gears, & first was a little tall, but around town it didnt work too bad ill just have to put a few miles on it , & play a bit... crazyL
