Mounting is easier since these tanks have a flange all the way around the top, so no need for straps.
You might want to rethink that. These trucks have "C" channel chassis and are designed to flex and move with the contours of the terrain. This is why the gas tanks are mounted with straps. With straps the flexibility is maintained. When you bolt the gas tank to the frame, as the frame flexes so will the gas tank, only the gas tank is welded together and is not flexible. Sooner or later the tank will start to split at the seams. WES

Interesting point. Never thought of that being an issue in the long run. I will be using straps when mounting my gas tank when I finally decide between either the burb tank or the camaro tank.

Re: 69 Camaro Gas Tank Install

67slider, thanks for the write-up. It made things a lot easier when I did mine this weekend. I followed your parts list almost exactly, except I found my tank at a swap meet.

The only thing I am going to do different is I will be putting the fill nozzle in the bed with a trap door.

Regardless of how the tank is mounted it has to come up solid against something so it doesn't move around and chaff a hole in the tank. The answer in either case is to isolate the mounts using a flexible material of some sort like rubber or polyurethane. Not that different from how the engine, T-case, axles, exhaust etc. are mounted to the frame. I had assumed that this was understood, but I guess not.

Re: 69 Camaro Gas Tank Install

Was there a reason for using the 2"x3" tubing instead of 2"x2"? I am guessing that the tank needed the 3" for clearance.
