Thanks! I think just black centers on the new wheels but I'm not sure yet.

Re: 71 c10 Dropmembered Driver

One quick question-with that size of tire you have on there, would it be possible to run the stock hood hinges?

No you couldn't and still be that low. The tire is a 275-60-15 which is 28" overall tall. A 255-35-20 is 27" tall. It's all about the overall diameter. The only possible way you could get that low with stock hinges may be with some 13" daytons or something with a very small tire. Changing hood hinges isn't a big deal compared to the work it takes to go that low. I had my hinges on and done in about 5 hours.

What size are your wheels on your trucks? I think the hoe is the only one old enough to drink! I think I'm stickin with the 20/22 combo. I gotta have some sidewall.... unless I come across a blow out deal on 22's for all 4!

Re: 71 c10 Dropmembered Driver

Thanks for all the compliments! Not too much progress yet still gathering and coating parts. Got the seat back. Its the stock seat recovered in leather and I had the back thinned out some. I really happy with how it turned out. I got some firebird bezels from gregfull (board member) I think these will really clean up the looks of the marker lights. I also added some pictures of the shaved drip rail. The roof flows soo much better now. Sorry for the crappy pics, the lighting sucks in my garage.

I'm really digging the paint scheme you went with. And the subtle mods you went with make it look killer.

No I didn't. I left the motor in and only painted the top of the firewall... the shaving and painting will come in the next stage when I give the engine bay the full treatment.

I just used the part number nate gave me and ordered them from carquest, I think they are made by Gabriel. If you need the part number let me know.

Yep he had some extra black leather laying around that wasn't enough to do a whole interior.

No not yet I've been super busy at the shop doing shows and working my a$$ off to get the good guys giveaway car done, but the good news is the mustang is done so I can finally get some time to work on it now. Heres a pic just for conversation. Hopefully this week I can hit it hard... it's starting to get nice here!

Thanks! I'm not a huge fan of mustangs either but I'm happy with the way that one turned out.
The truck should be back out soon just waiting on a few powdercoat pieces. Hows your projects comming along?

Re: 71 c10 Dropmembered Driver

Update time! I'm getting close to finally getting the truck back on the road!!
I still need to finish putting glass in , building door panels, and a few more odd and ends but its all most there.
I changed the grille to a 69-70 because I think it looks a little cleaner. I still need to make the filler for the center to cover up marker light holes and I'm going to powder it black to tie it all together.
The blue steering wheel will be going away soon. I built a new insert for the gauges to get rid of the center hole and I built a cup holder to hold the occasional adult beverage.
The firebird marker lights worked out pretty well. I smoked the lights to make them look the same color when the are off. I would suggest adding some more clearance to the bezels if anyone else tries this because all the clearcoat makes thing a little tight.
Hopefully the 20's and 22's will be here soon cause these 15's are killing me.
I also will be changing the mirror heads on the stock mirrors to round ones, I'm not a big fan of the rectangles. I will post pics of how I do it, I'm not sure if anyone has tried it yet on theses trucks.
Anyway thats enough of me rambling let me know what you think!

Re: 71 c10 Dropmembered Driver

I ordered an unwelded tank from boyd welding and welded it up.
I moved the mounting flanges the whole way to the bottom to move the tank up to get more ground clearance and I added some additional baffling to try to help fuel starvation under acceleration.
When I moved the tank up I had to cut the bed floor out and it ended up about flush with the floor.
The second picture is the ground clearance with the truck laid out.
I still plan on building wheel tubs and covering the center. I will probably leave the tank exposed and trim out the edges with some aluminum.
