For those using taurus springs

Picked up a pair of 99 taurus wagon springs and went to install them. Noticed that the pigtail is way too small ( both coil and wire diameter ) to fit the spring retainer plate. So, that brings us to the questions:

1. For mounting, did you cut part of the pigtail off, or did you modify the retainer plate/ use plates from a different vehicle?

2. Have you noticed any movement of the springs over time?

Never heard of this.. is this for the rear or front??

Yeah I heard of using keep springs but never Taurus springs maybe a stop block will be better

I would not run Taurus springs in a truck. I'm pretty sure the spring rates are not meant for a trucks weight

A Taurus wagon might have a bit heavier springs than a 4 door, but likely too light

Just so everyone knows what we're talking about, here are the specs for the taurus springs; as well as jeep tj springs for comparison:

99-04 taurus wagon rear coils:

So according to the specs, taurus wagon coils have a higher rate, a WAY higher load rating ( more than original coils ) and ride lower than jeep springs. What's not to like?

Why would you want to use springs not designed for these trucks when you can buy new truck dropped springs for $100 or so?

Why a car spring? Ride Height, Load Rating, Cost. Would be nice to know. Sometimes you can teach an old dog new tricks. lol

I got them really cheap. I just want to see if I like the look/clearance of the 4.5-5" drop these are supposed to give. Then I'll save up for HD drop coils. Our lousy exchange rate does wonders for the cost of parts up here...

X2. I tried jeep springs years ago. Lowered the truck about 1" if that, rode like crap. Yes I used the ones "everybody" said would work. Never again, lesson learned.

MY problem here is the lack of any listing on spring ratings..
The listings just state 2"/3"4"5" etc drop..
no listing of rate.. knowing rate and your sway bar and shocks= better handling/ride.
I don't think I've seen any opinions of different rates in say a 3" drop spring. other than whatever wire they rolled..

I run the jeep springs and have for 5 yrs. dropped it about 3" and rides like a dream. You need to re- locate the shock mounts to get the ride quality mine didn't ride good until I put different shock mounts on.

I have shock relocated mounts, proper shocks, etc. the only thing I cheaped out on was the jeep springs. After switching to the properly designed springs the truck actually dropped like it was supposed to and rides as it should. The minimal money saved initially was a joke, it's not like they are hundreds of dollars less

Update.

First off, I can't get the pics to work right. Me + computer = FAIL.

for the heck of it, I went ahead and tried it.

Cut off part of the pigtails so that the stock retainer plates fit:


Torched springs had to go...

Installed them and they are low! I'm guessing 5+ inches, but can't be sure due to my torched originals. There's less than 1/2" to the bumpstops, and track bar runs uphill. Ran out of daylight so no installed pic yet. When it stops raining...
