Re: Browntown moves east and gets a makeover

ok so the stock floor is still under this floor correct? how would you take the bed off did you weld a nut onto original floor and run the bolt from underneath?? also im in need of some measurments, could you measure the widest part of the rear notch?

You are correct.. The bed now bolts from the underside of the truck, we made plates with nuts welded to them, then welded them to the original bed floor..

what part of the notch ? from tub to tub or front to back?

Wow! That looks great! It is amazing what a little more work can do to really give sheet metal that "finished" look. Top notch my friend, just like the whole truck!

Re: Browntown moves east and gets a makeover

from tub to tub. I am trying to find out if the notch will clear easily in a stepside bed. Debating of putting the original one back on my truck. But im thinking the the fenders will limit it with how low it would go

Re: Browntown moves east and gets a makeover

Here are some more pics with the bed installed on the truck and the Macs straps track installed for strapping stuff down... Curt was also quick to pull the bumper back off and get the correct one on the truck so Lolife99 and Jonboy would be happy! We are hammering away on the truck again.. stay tuned for pics..

Re: Browntown moves east and gets a makeover

Well, I guess I'm looking for some thoughts from you guys on the engine bay, We're going to give it the sheet metal treatment on the inner fenders and smooth out the firewall so looks as killer as the bed does. But the motor tranny deal is killing me!!!! It has a 350 SB 350 Turbo in it now that runs just fine, If I put a GearVendor on it I'd most likely be cool with it. Then I have to do a Billet Specialties Tru Trac on so it all tucks together and I can get my ac in it too. I have another SB block in the shop thats built some but not crazy that would give me more power and I also have a LS1 floating around along with a 700r4. So at this point what do you guys think before I start buying parts for something I may not be happy with in the long run??? I want to drive the truck with a fun factor. Give me your ideas. Thanks Curt

Jonboy just did a TBI/700r4 swap into his 74 not too long ago for 'improved efficiency & reliability'. Although it's 'ok', he's mentioned since (more than once) he should have stuck to the KISS principle & left it carb'd & just added the OD trans.

I vote put an OD or GV's behind it....
Do the sbc TruTrac....
Drive the wee out of it....

Re: Browntown moves east and gets a makeover

LS with a 4L80E all the way!!! Can make up a killer sheet metal engine cover to tie in with the smooth engine bay & it'd look SWEET! Plus, the reliability of stock GM stuff is outstanding - get one of the new E-ROD set-ups & you even get a warranty!!!

Re: Browntown moves east and gets a makeover

go with the ls1 and the 700r4, since you already have it......or a 6.2 LS with the 4l80. something with 500hp or so to make it "fun"......if the tinwork in the front is anything like it is in the bed, it will be awesome!!

I vote for this as well since you have it and since this truck is already a show stopper....to me a sbc isn't a show stopping motor....

Some cool options for engine covers and custom air cleaner setups....

...and turnkey reliability....

That being said, KISS is a good idea too and a sbc with the truetrac can look pretty sweet once painted and detailed out.....

Re: Browntown moves east and gets a makeover

My other problem is that I feel guilty taking up time and space in the shop, the small block can be made pretty on a stand and go in in a day. The LS will take a little time, I can make it look cool but I'm not one for engine covers either. I do have a big block too, but don't want to think about that.

The small block, I know I can give it a killer look with not so much work, I'm really thinking I may go that route. Time is my hardest part.
