Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

Went on a trip to Montana in Judith gap to do relaxing and to pick my new/old wood for the bed of my truck I really like the color it dry and love the grey weather look. I wanted to keep the wood looking old and original so I did some picking on an old house that fell down. The fun thing is the truck came from this town got to meet the original owners son and he gave me the history on the truck and I was trying to find the deal plate but he didn't have one but he gave me some stickers. Stay tune to how the bed comes out.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

Finally got courage up to rip out the bed. I still remember installing it back in 1995 and the "marine grade plywood" touted to last forever was long rotted away. I had sealed it, painted it and did it all so it lasted maybe 15 years before giving up. New bed will be Choicedek synthetic with all stainless runners, angle covers and all stainless hardware. This one better last as its the last one i will install. What a mess. Had to grind most of the rusted bolts and tear out the runners with a crowbar.

Neat idea. There is a barn I pass behind my neighborhood that is super rundown. Just waiting for it to collapse so I can ask them for some of the wood. Hopefully there are a few good bits; I would totally use it for a truck bed.

All I did was sell my 58, health issues forced the sale. Sorry to see it go but it went to a good home and it will get built for sure.

Hopefully you be able to see it with the new owner driving it with a smile on his face. That's always nice that it goes to a good home.

I got the bottom outer panel rust cut off on the drivers side cowl, and then I "drove" it out of the garage onto the lawn to sand blast the inner structure of course finding much more rust. It is localized so not a big thing, just a few more "five minute" stints.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

I had a conversation with my truck this weekend I told my truck that its close to being back on the road and that I would start working on it again by next weekend. I wrote out a game plan on my white board and will get to it soon.

That is much better than not doing anything!

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

Got a itch today and turned to my wide thats 7 months pregnant and said I want to finish the motor and put it in the frame. So this is what we ended up with what a pain did it all on the gravel. But it didn't turn out too bad. Next step wiring and mount all the brakes lines again and driveline.

Good luck getting the headers past the steering box. This would be a great time for an IFS install.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

Bought block huggers fits real nice. Use to have a 350 in it before I did the swap fit really nice and didn't hit the steering had about an inch of room. My only issue is the booster and master that are on the frame but mocked the exhaust around it

74 k10, c/k10-30 are the same 72 thru early 80's. The stock stud spacing is the same as 58-59 hood hinge bolt spacing. There is detail in my build thread.
Make sure you get the cables back to the rear end. I am running a 74 rear end too.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

Not very exciting. Recycling center run today to make space in the garage. I did cut out the brake booster section, fuse harness section of the firewall and cut out the transmission tunnel. All wires are traced and gone. Sure hope I didn't need anything else.

Heavier than it looks though.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

I found a 57 frame for my truck!! Picked up my 454 from my friend..ordered my cam and lifters. Finally found a good deal for gm rotors with ford pattern and ordered wildwood calipers for my 80 Camaro subframe.
