Static suspension ?'s

My second thread. Seems like the more I read the more options I see.

I want to do a static 4/6 drop. That looks the best to me.
68 SWB C10

So I just learned about lowering blocks today. I see the ECE kit with a drop spring. Wouldn't it be better to do a 2" block and then do a 3" or 4" spring than a 6"? Will I still need a trac bar relocated? Do I still need to relocate the shocks? Way2lo and No limits seem to have a 3" spring listed, but not a 4". Should I only look for a 5" drop in the rear?

The front I figure I will use the McGaughey's 2.5 spindle and the 1" spring, but that is not a 4" drop? So all I need there is the disc brake stuff.

Obviously I will need new shocks all the way around.

What else? Any suggestions or options I should consider?

We just went bagged, but before that were static 4" in the rear and it was super bouncy without relocating the rear shocks... Just FYI.

I used 3" springs, 2 inch blocks and No Limit shock relocation kit w/shocks for the rear and 2" spindle and 2" springs for the front on my 65. I originally had 5" springs and CPP relocation kit on the back and it sucked to put it nicely.

Blocks give you drop w/o losing travel like shorter springs will.
I would opt for a 'long' Panhard bar. The longer the bar, the less side shift there will be.
I would also relocate the shock mounting points for better angle & the ability to use OE replacement spec'd shocks.

2" is the split on the F/R height difference so base your rear requirements on the front height. Different guys like different amounts of rake which is why what works for one guy may not for another.

Will the 2" diff in F/R get me level F/R? I am not a big fan of rake.
Is there a way to get 4" drop up front?

I don't know that anyone makes a 2" drop spindle... Most of them are 2.5, so you could go 3.5 or 4.5 with a 1in or 2in spring.

CPP Modular spindles are advertised as a 2" drop.
ECE also sells a 1.5" drop spring for their 4/6 drop kit.

If you do 6"s you will need the shock relocator and track bar for sure. Buy the adjustable track bar which realy isn't adjustable once installed. You have to set it before hand. Get the one that goes from drivers side frame mount to passenger side trailing arm also.

I wouldn't recommend lowering block's myself. If you use them make very sure the U-bolts don't stick down below the rim. This is a safety concern if you have a flat at speed. I like the dropped springs with helper air bags for the back. The truck rides great, I've even been thinking about installing them in the front as well but have yet.

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Andy, what changes did you notice in the ride quality? I've got a 4" drop coil in the back, along with the ECE Super Track Bar and shock relocation kit. I haven't got mine on the road yet, but I don't want a bouncy ride. I have been considering the Air-Lift bags that you have because I would like to pull a small trailer from time to time.

The dropped springs were very bouncy with nothing in the truck. I have a bridge that I have to cross every day going to work and the truck would bounce all the way across it. I scrubed the front several times depending on my speed when I would hit the bridge. I installed the bags and it rides good and steady now even empty no matter what speed I'm doing. You can also pull a trailer with out bottoming out.
I'm installing the 6.0 LSx motor now in it and depending on how much more it weights will detirm if I do the fronts. Just to keep it from hitting anything.

Porterbuilt sells an adjustable pan hard bar that has heim joints on both ends so you can adjust it in place and at ride height.

If they would have been around back when I did mine I'd had there's. I've been thinking about taking mine back off and cutting it and threading the other end and adding the heim joints.

Well mine is right now after strapping on 2 rachet straps and pulling over to center it up.

The CCP one is adjustable just not after installed. I'm like U though it would be nice for it to be though!
