Re: 2020 deer season
I got a goofy one. I have seen him live......he’s illegal to shoot, but I sure hope he’s not gonna carry on his genes. I may have to get Dad or my Uncle to knock him out!

Re: 2020 deer season
Some nice deer pics in this thread. Haven't been hunting for several years now. Lost my hunting area when it was sold and being almost 72 years young not as enthused about it as I used to be. When I was rifle hunting I used a Weatherby Vangard VGX 30/06 bolt action with a Bushnell 3 x 9 scope. Took several nice deer but no trophy sized for sure. Got into hunting with a "stick and a string" aka BOW HUNTING. Now that was a real trip, quite a challenge. First year or two had a lot to learn about being quiet as one slips into the woods early in the morning. Got my first deer with a bow my second year. Nice doe that made some really good chili and sausage. Used a Bear Kodiak compound bow set at 65 lbs draw weight, 50% let off and open or instinctive style shooting, no release just leather finger tab. Sure puts one on a more equal footing with the deer. Used both a 3 blade and a 4 blade razor tip on 32'' aluminum arrows. Loved the woods early in the morning, quiet and peaceful watching the world come alive. Enjoyed that nearly as much as I enjoyed taking a deer.

Re: 2020 deer season
^^ I agree, enjoying nature sure is a big part of hunting. Getting away from everything else and being in peace and quiet, getting back to your roots.

Re: 2020 deer season
-
I have never been deer hunting in my life. The first and last were hit by vehicles in front of my house and the middle one was either hit by a vehicle or shot and made it into the corn field behind my house and died laying on a terrace. He was in pretty bad shape by the time I found him so I waited until it got cold enough that he didn't stink too bad to get the antlers.... LockDoc

Re: 2020 deer season
Yeah, I was thinking: "You have elk in New York ?????!!!!!"
Whereabouts in MT? We occasionally see them around here, but the deer are everywhere.

Re: 2020 deer season
One has not completely lived until they have heard an elk bugle in real life, let alone get to shoot one. It’s an amazing experience that I wish every outdoorsman could have.

Seen elk up close they came right into our campsite in Yellowstone they were looking for water. Ranger opened the spigot they all drank and left.

Re: 2020 deer season
I appreciate that. I pretty much only deer hunt, but I've been collecting points in CO for elk. I think I have around 13 now. One of these years I'll find out for myself!
