Hey guys I am brand new to the forum, and also new to these trucks. I have a 1968 GMC 3/4 Ton 4x4 long bed step side that i just bought from my girlfriends dad. I have had a very hard time finding info on this truck as it seems that this veriation is not too common. Is this a rare truck?

With that name I'd expect you to be more of a Range Rover classic owner (not a bad thing :-) ), but to answer your question the 3/4 4x4 stepside were a fairly low production vehicle and usually commercial use trucks. Not sure where you can find actual GMC production numbers for it but Chevy the same year was about 1047 for the '68 K20 stepside.

Welcome to the forum! The long bed step sides I believe have the 8 1/2' bed like the Longhorns. Which I think actually have 1 ton suspensions. I'm pretty sure none of them are 4X4. I don't recall ever seeing a longbed stepside 3/4 ton 4X4, but I'm not sure. The long bed step sides and Longhorns are not exactly "rare" but there but there are less of them. Surely someone more knowledgeable than me will chime in. You should post some pictures.

Well to expand on my first post.
K2500 GMC trucks 4x4 3/4 ton were built on a 127" wheelbase.
It was offered in Chassis Cab, Wideside and Fenderside versions.
As you mentioned there were other bed sizes but not on a K2500.
The 8 1/2' bed was a Wideside only offering on a 1 ton chassis with a 133" wb as a 4x2 only in C2500 or C3000 ratings.
There was a 9' Fenderside C3500 as well, again 4x2 only.
Historically the 3/4 4x4 stepside/fenderside trucks were low production commercial use trucks and as I stated above Chevy built 1047 in '68 and since GMC number are usually lower it might very well be below 1000 units.

Tim meant to say that's a Fenderside,the GMC equivalent to Stepside.

Thank you guys for the information so far. I am working on the pictures and will have them up shortly. The bed on this truck doesn't have the spare tire cutout on the drivers side. It has the wooden bed (although it is in need of replacement), clearance lights (chicken lights), and is sitting on 6" of lift. Hope this might help to sort some questions out.

My truck has the rockwell transmission and transfercase and i can't get the linkage to move the low range piston (sorry if that isn't the correct term). Is there a simple sollution to this issue or do in need to drop it out and overhaul the linkage. I can pull that piston, but only with the help of a prybar.

Sounds like you are going inside and parts can be an issue.

If you have to pry on the linkage and it will not reverse there is likely a fork isssue or interlock. Dropping the trans and pulling the cover should give a quick idea on what the damage is and what parts are needed. Unfortunatelly it also leaves your truck stranded. Might start a search to see if there is a spare about to do a temporary exchange.

Starting a seperate thread like "T221 Help needed" in the 4x4 section might get more/better results after trying a site search.

Very nice, now how about a SPID or at least some specifics. Any luck with the t-case issue? By chance were you trying to shift it static with the engine off?

No, the 67-68 Chevy/GMC stepsides/fendersides unlike the later 69-72 trucks could be ordered with trim. However it was on the cab only.

That truck is about as cool as it can be, I wouldn't change a thing.
From the slots to the stance and perfect patina, I would drive the wheels off that thing.
