Re: Finally some PAINT!!!

Thanks guys for the compliments… but I've got some bad news. I finally got my truck aligned today, so I decided to go for a cruse. When I started to notice that my oil pressure was acting up. Under acceleration I lose oil pressure. I wasn't far from home(like less than a mile), so I headed back. Almost home it sounded like a bearing was squalling. I get home and at idle I've got like four pounds of pressure. Not for sure what the problem is. I'll try to get it out this weekend. I guess this is what I get for trusting someone… when they said "motor is fresh rebuild, just had it built" I bought the truck that it was in. It did run and drive great. That was like three plus years ago. I've driven this truck for like the last two weeks back and forth to work, never over 55. Then as soon as I get on the highway up around 70 to 75. Then the problem starts to happen. I have know idea.

Re: Finally some PAINT!!!

so sorry to hear about the engine. Man, that sucks big time! I know from experience when you lose oil pressure and it sounds like a bearing, well more than likely it is. Hope it all works out good. If not you will need to throw that 5.3 in there.

Re: Finally some PAINT!!!

I'm goin to pull the pan Saturday. I'm hoping that the pickup tube fell off, but I figured that if it did fall off I'd have zero pressure. What do you guys think?
My dad told me to check that. He said that he was working on one, where it would have pressure at idle(low RPM) then it would lose it. The pickup tube fell off of that one.

Thanks,
Justin

I'm saving that 5.3 for my other 68, but if I can get a deal on a 6 liter I'll go that route. I've been told i can get that 5.3 resleeved to like a 4XX cubic inch, without over heating problems. Might look into that.

Re: Finally some PAINT!!!

Did it have a miss to it? Cam going down can make you lose pressure too but im sure you knew..

Was it knocking? I would put a wet line on it before i pull the pan and do that much work, just to see if something is wrong with the gauge..

If you do find a deal on a 6.0 ill take the 5.3 off your hands

Re: Finally some PAINT!!!

No miss and it wasn't knocking. The only noise it made was for like 5 sec. and it was like metal on metal squealing noise. It would only do that if you reved it up. So I shut it down. Not for sure I know what you mean about wet line... Whats that? I do have a mechanical gauge on it.

Re: Finally some PAINT!!!

You could have spun a main, and yep it can squeal on you you too. Hope not but it sure doesn't sound good. Good luck with finding a "deal" on a 6.0.

Re: Finally some PAINT!!!

Well I've got some good news! Fixed the problem, hope I didn't do much damage. Pulled the pan today and the pickup tube fell off. I figured that if the tube would of fallen off I'd lost all the pressure...I was wronge, but glad it was an easy fix. Pulled the front main just to check the bearing. Been told if you starve a motor of oil, it's usally the first to go. Since it's the farthest away from the pump. It looked good. So torqed it down, welded the tube back to the pump...back in buisness!

Re: Finally some PAINT!!!

Looks like the weld broke from the initial installation. Never seen a weld break on a pickup tube before.

Glad you caught it before it did any serious damage.

Truck looks great. Keep up the good work.

Re: Finally some PAINT!!!

Yeah! I did it all last Saturday. Just pulled the pump and welded it back on. Then looked at the front main. New pan gasket and topped it off with new oil. I've been driving it since. I know it's just been three days, but today I drove it about 40 miles to get a sending unit. So I could get my full gauge to work and I ran out of gas two blocks from my house. Damn big block drinks the fuel! I hope I don't get tired of feeling it up… but the motor sound good and solid. I think it'll last.
