12" Sub RMS Power question

Can 50W RMS drive a 12" Pioneer rated at 150W rms and 800W Max? Just wondering if I needed to buy another amp or not. I already have a Dual 300W xpa2500 amp and trying to use it to power 2 Pioneer TS W302 R. My friend had these speakers and amp originally in his car, but he hat the subs running in parallel (2ohms overall) but I just found out looking at the manual that the amp has a minimum of 4 ohms. Should I run these in parallel, series, individually or just buy another amp. I'm not aimin to have the loudest truck on the block, just wanted some good base in my 1970 shortbed (I'm tryin to mount the subs behind the seat where the gastank originally was). Buy another amp. You want to be able to overpower the subs before underpowering them.

I have had a lot of luck with the kenwood KAC-8105d amps. They are small and put out nice power. You can run it at 2 ohms all day long.

I'm thinking about keeping just the one amp for now (on a college budget but will definiely go with a bigger amp later on) and I just checked crutchfield and they said the subs need between 50W-150WRMS. I know for a fact the amp can do this on stereo (2x50W RMS). I was just wonderin how much RMS the amp cranks out at 8 ohms (running them in series bridged) if it is rated at 1x150W RMS at 4 ohms. I would thinking 75W but I could be wrong. Will I even tell a difference?

50 rms is what alot of aftermarket head units put out X4, it will push it probably but it wont hit all that hard, 8 ohms doesnt sound good IMO, you can get an apms1300 for $120 which would push anything you would want to put in your truck without being ridiculous, plus its strappable and very small for a 1000rms amp. i have an apms1300 on an m.a. audio 10 at 1 ohm and it sounds great, if i were you thats what i would do, but thats just a suggestion.

Thanks for the advice, I'm probably just going to run the amp for now on 8ohms until I can afford to put a bigger amp in it. I'll definitely look into gettin that amp you were talkin about, I was sure disappointed when I found out my current one wasn't 2 ohm stable. Still curious how much rms the amp is kicking out on 8 ohms.

nothing wrong with that, just whatever you do do not go under the minimum ohm of your amp, it will fry your amp for sure, i fried an amp running it at 1/2 ohm unintentionally in about 10 minutes.

Just run your subs in stereo 4 ohms per channel for now then. One sub for each channel. I assume your subs are 4 ohms from your post. That would be the ideal resistance of the amp and would help it last the longest.

Just to be clear if you are hooked to the factory wiring there isn't a stereo in the world that will give you 50 watts rms, it's mathematically impossible. At best you will get 25-30 watts rms.

Also would you mind linking these 120 dollar 1000 watt rms amps. I'll buy 2 tomorrow.....no joke.

Thanks Brett09, I'll probably wire the subs that way for now (they are 4ohm per speaker). Just out of curiosity, will these subs still "hit" decently on 50rms (The amp produces 300W peak power)? Like I said before I ain't lookin for the loudest truck on the block, just somethin with some decent bass.

As long as everything the manufacturers spec on both the subs and amp are correct and the subs are in a proper sized box then they should sound fine.

The way I understand amplifiers is this. Your amp will be 2 ohm stable in stereo, but not bridged. If you bridge it, it is technically running in 2 ohms, and that's how the power output is increased. So, running it bridged, with the speakers wired in series, is still 4 ohms. Pretty much the same as running it in stereo. Only difference is, with it bridged, you will get all the signal to both speakers, and not partial stereo separation.

Thats how I understand things, and I've been wrong before. So I would run it bridged in series. You'll get a little better output bass wise as they will be running the same thing at the same time. This will increase db's also, though not much.
