semi-OT: help with Dodge D60 hubs

hey gang,
I have been poking around the internet, and much to my chagrin I cannot find locking hubs that will go on my junkyard special dana 60 front. it is a dodge, with large external drive flanges.

closest thing I have found is a Selectro part number,
"11034-01 1976-1989 Dodge DANA 60 W300"
but apparently my axle is from a D-600 which isnt listed on their site?

and yes, I have seen the tech article on dana 60's at pirate4x4.

can anyone help me or point me in the right direction?

Selectro is the only lockout I know of for the dodge external drive hub, you can also find the exact same lockout under the Dualmatic brand name. The only difference I can see is my Selectros are chrome and the Dualmatic is painted.

the Selectros I have seen look just like that. here is a pic Jims70GMC posted a while back:

I havent heard much about these hubs. Any opinions?

I like how the whole hub is the knob, would make for easy gripping. I wonder how much these cost...can't find them for sale anywhere yet.

Got a friend w/ a 3/4 ton dodge w/ dana 60 front and he has the selectros, said it was the only ones he could find. I think he said something like $300.

1986 K30, 350/400/205 dana 60 and 14 bolt. I kept the drivetrain. Body/bad and chassis are gone.
1981 K30, 350/465/205 dana 60 and dually 14 bolt. Has a G80, and a flat bed. Going to replace the flat bed.

1985 K20, 350/400/208 10 bolt and SF 14 bolt. I wonder where I can find some 1 tons. Hmmmmm

do a search for Selectros on the web, I've found a couple vendors that way, also LMC sells them out of their '47-'59 catalog but they may only fit chevy axles of that era. They are a pretty penny for new ones too at $300 a set.

i have heard that i can also swap the hubs on this axle for those from a GM d60. that would be cool, since I originally wanted to run warn hubs. but no one seems to know what is involved with this swap, and its not like I have a GM d60 laying around for parts.

The pair of Dualmatics in that pic sold last sunday on ebay for 61 dollars, as far as switching hubs all that in involved is finding a pair of chevy hubs.

When I got my chevy d-60 it was complete except for the hubs and a steering arm, I was trading a high pinion ford 60 for it that was complete and told the owner of the yard that the only way I would do the deal is that if he came up with the missing parts.
He wanted the ford axle pretty bad so he tore apart the only other 60 he had which was from a dodge. The only thing I did was replace the dodges 1/2" wheel studs with 9/16" to match the 14 bolt, the steering arm ended up working better than the GM arm, with a 4" lift my draglink is level and no steering block.

so do you have external hubs on your dana 60?

my dad suggested that i just try and find someone with a GM dana 60, and trade for it, instead of replacing everything on it. I don't know if that is feasible, but I'd kinda like to stick with the axle I have...at around 500 pounds, they are a PITA to jockey around.

i am not sure about spending around $300 bones for Selectros, either. if i could get some used GM internal hubs, then get some brand new Warn premiums, I might still even be able to upgrade to 35 spline stub shafts also, for less than just using selectros.
i bet the SRW GM hubs are in high demand for switching DRW axles to SRW, so they probably wont be cheap.

another ?, will the dodge external hub stub shafts that i have now be longer than GM/Dodge internal hub stub shafts? seems these drive flanges are awful huge.

Stub shafts are the same, and yes the GM hubs go for a pretty good price. If you plan on going to 35 spline stubs a set of Warns will probably be about the same price as Selectro's.

I know what you mean about the weight of these things, I just recently sold Sakohntr a complete 60 and he hauled it in the back of a mini van, you should have seen that thing squat. I am just about ready to pull mine back out for a rebuild and to replace shock brackets for my high rear steer setup. Also got a new set of Skyjacker softrides to replace the Rancho springs.

after a night of searching the internet, i have discovered that it will be a lot cheaper to just get Selectros for my axle. if they are $300, still cheaper than converting to GM hubs. i think the Selectros are neat looking, how do you like them? are they pretty stout?

good thing this stupid axle only cost me $150, lol...now I get to spend spend spend on buying what I need.

i'm actually kinda scared to think what this will cost to get it under my truck...it needs rebuilt, and swap to 4.56 gears; i would like a power lock up front; these Selectros; if the inner axleshafts are the step down type, then I will replace them with regular ones; new brake stuff; crossover steering; hi-steer...the list goes on and on, AND ITS JUST THE FRONTEND!. I guess that since I won't be doing much rockcrawling I don't need the 35 spline stub shafts, at least thats something else i dont have to buy...unless mine are shot, lol.
the price we pay to be addicted to these old trucks, lol...

oh and moving this around sure was fun...we picked it up in my dad's F-150, that thing rode like a Caddy with all that weight...lol.
the junkyard guy has this crazy vehicle he uses to move stuff around the yard, its built on a 4x4 truck frame of some sort (no D60 front, tho) but it has no cab or sheetmetal...has a seat, and a boom that can move almost a full 360*, 2 winches, and a flatbed...uses stick controls like a backhoe. he smashed a Ford fullsize van out of the way, and lifted the axle into my dad's truck no problem.
when we got home, we tied a tow strap to a sturdy maple tree, and used a come along to lift it out of the bed. then lowered it onto the little dolly i have it on to move around. lol...redneck engineering at its best...

69 GMC My dodge 60 has the dual-matic hubs on it and so far they have helded up to a 570 hp big block with out any problems. Good luck on finding used chevy 60 hubs for a swap they are like the holy grial of off- roading. I would watch e-bay for a set of selectros or dual-matics and use them they usualy go pretty cheap and as far as the pirate article and your axel being from a d-600 i think its probley a misprint.

thanks, that is stuff I like to hear. I guess reading pirate4x4 and CK5, I got the vibe that Selectros are bad...but thats only because they (as rockcrawlers) need more side clearance to keep the hubs from tagging rocks...about the biggest rocks here in Ohio are the crushed gravel in my driveway!
