Re: My '87 SWB Project w/pics!!

Hey guys here are some more updated pics. The first pic is some of the suspension, engine and other parts before I took them the to get powder coated. The second pic is the the A-Frame romoved, I will clean it up, por-15 chassis black and new hardware just like I did the rear. The last pic is the front of the truck with the A-frame removed. I got quite a bit of work ahead of me especially with the gunk and grime on the frame. I am either going to use my 20% Classic Industries coupon to bye all new Stainless Steel brake lines which should come out to around $200 or less including shipping or I may scotch brite the originals one at a time and then rattle can them in the "dupli-color" ceramic silver or have the silver powder coated. Deciding is the hardest part.. Enjoy everyone and be safe!!!

Re: My '87 SWB Project w/pics!!

Actually Jon the 4 cab bolts are already out And I have ordered new retainers, cab/rad support cushion mounts and I will be ordering the Energy suspension Cab mount bushing kit. Yep it snowballed...

JohnC - thanks for the comments; I will post pics as it is updated, trying to get most of all the drive train and suspension done before the Texas heat kicks in. I hope to have the frame finished, suspension back together, & engine and tranny back in by the 1st of May if everything goes right. Then I will get the cab over to the painter during that time, depending on the funds.

Re: My '87 SWB Project w/pics!!

Here is the A-Frame removed and degreased, what job. I will have it powder coated satin black since I can't get a foam brush with the chassis coat por-15 in the smaller areas. I will keep everyone posted.

Re: My '87 SWB Project w/pics!!

Man, I remember when this truck moved under it's own power. I must be getting old.

Just kidding, T. I hope you get it together soon. It is really coming along great. I think you will be glad you pulled it the rest of the way apart.

Re: My '87 SWB Project w/pics!!

camnsprayed - The large gauges are 5" and the smaller ones are 2 5/8". If you go to Jeff's site 73-87.com and look under the garage and interior I did the recessed gauge installation except I used Eric (ocbaud) method of hot glue instead of RTV. However I need to add some more.

smokedat - thanks bro, yeah it snowballed, I blame it on N2TRUX, Jonboy, TVBLAZER, and all the members here. lol lol

jonboy - i know right it used to be driveable... Yeah I will satisfied especially since I had to learn and do a lot myself especially to save me some money..

Waiting to see my powder coating bill. I will order my front Energy Suspension bushings, tie rod dust caps etc. real soon

SatisTraction: I bought the straps from Classic Industries, it was the ones that go with that 25 gallon tank if i am not mistaken

Re: My '87 SWB Project w/pics!!

I know these maybe boring pics but here are the body mount cushions, retainers, & upper front shock stud/bolts. I had to remove the factory rubber bushings from the cab mount cushions. They are factory GM parts I got from the dealership (cheaper than LMC). I will only use 2 out of the three shock stud/bolts. All these will be powder coated silver except for the shock bolt/studs which will be polished ceramic to match the rears. I will keep pics as I make progress. Enjoy!!

Re: My '87 SWB Project w/pics!!

Nice project. I just did a blazer tank swap on my s10 and was wandering what needed to be done for this swap. Thanks for the pics and info.

I know what you mean about snowballing projects. I'm still finishing up my last one...

Re: My '87 SWB Project w/pics!!

dbmx66: thanks for the compliments

87 chevy silverado: thanks for the compliments

glock35ipsc: thanks I remember that when i got it lowered the next morning I went and put the wheels and tires on it and then went to work the next day, I thought it was shiznit until I found this site and you know what happened afterwards..

smokedat: I basically clean the frame soap, water and some SOS pads, I already did the marine clean (por15), next I will do the metal ready (por15) and then i will foam brush on two coats of the POR15 Chassis Coat which is a Satin Black (factory look) color.

americanmuscle: Yeah some people tell me that it's overkill; it could be I guess but like told them it will not be a trailer queen, I want something that will hopefully last and is easy to keep clean. I already want a 4 door squarebody dually..

Re: My '87 SWB Project w/pics!!

Here are some pics, not too big of deal. I got this done today. A lot of elbow grease, heavy duty scotch brite pads, 220 grit sand paper (used occasionally), some mean green cleaner, & some brake parts cleaner (used occasionally). I still have the two coil brake lines that come off the master cylinder and the two rear axle brake lines to cleanup hopefully tomorrow after church. I may replace the two rear axle ones we will see. I am contemplating on using some VHT silver paint to paint them all and then use VHT clear on them as well. Those for lines mentioned above has the factory spiral sleeving on them. These are all the factory lines, two of them are the tranny lines. Enjoy!! FYI I should be picking up all the parts in the previous pics that went to powder coat on Monday evening and I will try and post pics up!! Enjoy and have a good safe weekend to all!!!

Re: My '87 SWB Project w/pics!!

Good evening everyone, I decided to post these pics before I head to my son's basketball practice. I hope you enjoy, I took the pics last night in the garage, excuse the lighting and quality. These are back from the powder coater. Now it's time to order all Energy Suspension hardware in about a week or so. Enjoy!!

Pic 1: lower & upper control arms (satin black), front brake dust shields (gloss black), control shaft u-bolts (satin black), upper & lower control arm shafts & washers (silver), & front springs (silver).

Pic 2: idler arm bracket, center drag link, motor mount bracket, motor mounts, a-frame to frame rail support brackets, cab & radiator cushion mounts & retainers, front spindles, & steering gear box cover all in silver, gear shift linkage (2pc.) gloss black.

Pic3: A-Frame (satin black), oil pan, tranny pan, & flywheel dust cover in silver

Pic4: Scored from Craigslist - MSD Pro Billet Distributor that was only used on a Dyno.
