Re: 77 Silverado Build thread

In one of the above pictures your hood is a greyish color, is it sanded, or did it fade like that?

It was ordered from LMC a while back and over a couple of months the thin coat they put on it faded. At the time when the picture was taken the hood had yet to be painted. Don't worry, it and the top of the cab will be painted Monday

Yeah also at the very front around where the latch is on the inside the coating they put on it cracked a little bit. After a quick sand it was fine but I don't know why it messed up like that.

Re: 77 Silverado Build thread

Well I got my truck out of the shop last night. It looks great and now I'm excited to get it back. Now I need to get a new gas tank and filler hose before I run outta gas cause the rubber hoses are gone.....

Re: 77 Silverado Build thread

Got my new gas tank (for an 84) along with the same year model vent hose/filler hose and the metal pipe that screws to the side of the bed. Switching to a square door bedside was a bit more complicated than I had hoped for but the cap sticking out just made me want to switch more.

Got the new rims on today. Finally had time when it wasn't cold or raining. Gotta love Texas bipolar weather.

After looking around I put 2" drop shackles on my Christmas to-buy list. Probably going to order right after Christmas and install. Other than that, going to pull the Christmas money gifts to see what I can purchase next. Can't wait till Christmas!

Btw you can just move your spring hangers up on the frame to get the same effect as shackles. Keith seymore did it. Ima do the same on my swb

I could but I don't want to mess with any rivets. Shackles seem like an affordable and doable (with my tools) solution for me. Glad I found that I could use shackles instead of removing leafs. That seems like a real pain.

Re: 77 Silverado Build thread

Removing leafs isn't hard at all, but with shackles you'll retain your factory ride. Its gonna look good!

Re: 77 Silverado Build thread

Removing leafs and adding leafs is quite easy...taking junkyard leafs and adding them to a stack however is a pain in the ***. (me and my brother took yota leafs and added them to his jeep stack...those things take forever to cut to size)

Steering wheel is going as soon as I can find one of the steering wheels with the brushed aluminum horn buttons. It would match the rest of the interior.

On a side note, I ordered a pair of 2" drop shackles last night. So the truck should be lowered soon!

For now it will just stay the satin black primer. Maybe someday I might give it more custom look (that is when I get tons of money and do a frame off restore ). Right now I'm sticking with the primered rat rodish look.

Re: 77 Silverado Build thread

Gas tank off today with help from one of my friends. Too bad I forgot to remember to bring my "how-to" notes...otherwise I would have remembered the fuel lines

Gotta go get new hoses for the fuel lines but then I can install the new tank. Luckily there won't be any gas in it so it should be a lot easier to work with. Hopefully.....

Re: 77 Silverado Build thread

Got a couple of things done tonight. Old tank sending unit off, found out that is was really messed up inside and ended up ordering one from O'Riellys and will put gas tank in tomorrow. Replaced the cab bushings while I had room with the tank out too.

Check out the cab photo. You can see how much the pass. side bushings raised the cab. Will get the driver side bushings on soon.

I also installed new license plate lights. Harder than it looks when you also have to clean up the half assed wiring the last whack job who owned it made.

Re: 77 Silverado Build thread

Just got back to computer after two days.

Got my new sending unit from O'Riellys and got it installed in the new tank. Then spent another couple of hours trying to get the tank to go in right. I put the front bracket on wrong the first time because when I put it up to the frame I found out that the bracket and straps were not centered on the tank and therefore had to take them back off and put it on again.

I wasn't able to finish because the vent/filler hoses ordered from LMC were to short. I double checked all of the part numbers with what I was supposed to have and they all were the same. I guess LMC just stunk at getting right sized filler hoses or something. Anywho I had to go to O'Riellys and get generic hose for the vent hose and had to order a 15" 90 hose that I will have to cut to fit. Dang thing cost $32!

I'm at my dads for the next week so no updates for a while. I was hoping to get my truck running by new years but I guess that's not going to happen.
