Re: New old guy.

Interesting engine build, a bit much for the weight of the truck, at least cam wise but as mentioned at least a 3.73 diff ratio and a 2,500 stall and it will all work out well and be a lot of fun to drive. don't go any higher stall though, more is not better. Remember you are building a heavy truck not a car so mid range power is great not top end. Happy building, will be watching, keep posting you will get a "lot" of help here with good truck building experiance.

Re: New old guy.

Oil pan drain plug pic above-------Pan threads had a little bugger. In and out from both sides many times finally went smooth before store trip for 1/2-20 tap. Ill get one anyway. Anyone want the chrome pan? Couple of dents but flat rails, good holes.

Re: New old guy.

You can get to the plugs, the wires are hard to route though. I have the newer style center bolt heads, and have not found any looms that work well.

Re: New old guy.

Summit and Jegs both have 2 or 3 center bolt wire loom options, let me know if you ever find out which works best. When time comes Im going to design my own, make a million$. But I do have some ideas and it might be a fun project

Re: New old guy.

Does the angle of this oil pickup look right? To have 1/4-3/8 pan clearance this is the way it has to be. The screen part is more than an inch from pan? Shouldnt it be in a more level position? Fri morn, Ill post somewhere else too hoping for a quick reply. Cant find local buddies this morning and this is my first engine assembly[IMG][/IMG]

Also notice the oil pan gasket is installed already as required for proper clearance.

Re: New old guy.

I needed Melling 55-S1 screen not 55-S2. Screen is flat w 1/4in clearance to bottom of pan. We got this far today. Water pump, power steering etc and pullies wiil be another major (for me) undertaking in next few days. Help and comments from people on this site have made it possible. Took[IMG][/IMG] more than a few ph calls, posts and private messages to get me this far. Thanks again Had to bring welding leads in MH to re inforce straining engine stand. Pictures will follow in some order, still learning photobuchet thing.

Re: New old guy.

[IMG][/IMG]I call it "Engine inna Kitchen", it's all the new rage. And now my girlfriend doesnt want to move in. Whats up with that?? Keeping it simple, old school Chevy Orange. There isnt one of those fuel pump mounting plate things within a hundred miles of here. So Rockauto or somewhere like that. Then to junkyard this week to look for pullies. Thought if I kept existing 350 all intact, be easier to sell to someone who needs a quick dropin. Its half wore out but should be worth something. But, it might make sense to start robbing off of it. We'll see. (062's, supposed to be the better of the two good Vortec heads. Pocket ported and good valve, seat grind))
