Re: 88-98 seats or 99'-05' seats

I see nobody has commented on the 99-05 seats. I have 2000 seats and I love them. It's like riding on air. I'm not sure about these seats and the 4x4 aspect of it. I always thought Yukon Jack's truck had the same seats but he says they are 98's. The one real big benefit of the 99-05's is the integrated seatbelts.

One thing to keep inmind the floors were not dsesigned to take all the stress of a seatbelt/seat combo in a accident. I hope all of you that are using the 99 up seats have reinforced the floor where the seat mounts. We all hope our truck are never in a accident but you have to keep in mind you Wife, Girlfriend, or Kids saftey.

anybody ever got those 88-98 seats recovered? I was told it is not practical. I have a set of the 60/40 from a 98 but they are not the color I want.

You can probably do it, but I'm not sure how easy the old covers will come off without wrecking the foam, as they are glued on to keep the ridged shape on the front, or at least my 92 buckets are.

Re: 88-98 seats or 99'-05' seats

I've got a plain old 88-94 bench in my 72 4x4. Bolted it right to the floor, no spacers or anything. I like the 88-94 seats better cause they are fairly thin and seem to make more room in the cab. I actually have to lean forward to tune the radio now!

Shameless plug;
For anybody looking, I've got a 88-94 60/40 blue cloth seat, a set of tan leather Denali Buckets, and a stock style grey tweed 73-87 bench for sale.

They are not too bad to get recovered. EdB hadhis redone in dark green to look close to the original seat. It came out very nice.

is EdB his screen name? Would like to know what the final cost was? Looking at a set of buckets 40/20/40 I would like to put in my truck, but I don't think the maroon will go with the green of my truck.....I like black, that way I can paint my truck any color my heart desires in the future

That is probably just my bad memory - I keep thinking they are 98's but must be that they are 99's cause they are definitely the same as yours.

I added reinforcements below my floor and on top of the floor and I think that I have done a good job reinforcing the floor - safety is definitely a concern that I don't take lightly.

Same thing here. I used steel plates on the bottom of the floor pan to reinforce the seats into the cab.

How much room do you have from the steering wheel compared to the original seat? I am thinking about using a set of 2003 buckets but worry I will sit too close to the steering wheel.

That's what I did. Where I installed them you can only click forward one more click on the tracks. I'm 5'8 and with the seats all the way back (how I installed them) I could probably use an inch or so more back, but it's no worse than the stock seat. In the position we put them they are also a little bit lower, my seat back is just a hair below the back window, which is how I wanted it. To me, it feels like a comfortable driving position.

Re: 88-98 seats or 99'-05' seats

I dont have alot of foreward adjustment I dont need it either.

I actually Pie cut my seat brackets and mounted the seat flat to the floor. I wanted a little more rake to the seat and I was already up high in the front.
It's way more comfy now and because the back is lower I gained leg room. I wish I would have cut the seat frame the first week I had it in the truck not 4 months after. Oh well.

Do you have to use your tilt to get in and out of the truck ?

Yes EdB is his screen name. He hasn't been on much lately but to read and check PMs periodically because of Katrina cleanup, but PM him and he can give you an idea. Now his was a straight bench with no armrest. With your's being a 40/20/40 it will probably run more.

When I set them in there for a test fit, I slid the brackets all the way back (if the seats were mounted, its like sliding the seat all the way forward). This made it so the stock 92 bucket brackets sat behind the lip in the middle of the cab that the stock bench bolted to. I would have no seat movement in the forward direction this way. It seemed comfortable with them like that, so I may do it that way.

I don't have a tilt column. Wish I did. I can get in and out of the truck easily, I'm 5'8 and all of about 160-165 pounds. My uncle is the same hieght, but considerably, ummm, huskier??? and he did have some trouble getting in and out.

Hi Bill, I have a set of 88/98 buckets just like Palf70step is going to install in his truck. Now I see the 88/98 60/40's in yours I kinda like them better. Were they a bolt in? I dont know if my truck is a big hump or small hump but it has a TH400 for a trans if that helps. Why did you use S10 seat belts ,wouldnt the ones from the truck you got the seats from work?

Here is a link to how I reinforced my floor.

I encourage anyone using these type of seats to do as much research as possible and then make an educated decision of whether to use these seats and how to reinforce your floor.

Re: 88-98 seats or 99'-05' seats

I just got my 88 bench seat back from the upholsterer. He went way above what he quoted me, set me back $418, but it looks nice. Ill try and get some pics. It sounds like nobody has modified the brackets for these bench seats to lower them? My first impression was it was a little high, but after measuring, it was the same height as my 93 GMC, so maybe its alright.
