Headers?????

Truck is bagged and I will be running a 350 and 700r4. Which headers work. I heard Chevelle 3/4 length will work... Input please.... Thanks in advance...

Been there done that with headers... Just like the previous Q, ya really got your heart set on headers? To me they have always been a royal PITA...
I have my Ram's back on after many years of headers, and I am lovin life not dealin with exhaust leaks, burnt plug wires, burnt... etc etc.

If you really want em, the last set I had on my K20 were Hooker Pro comps. They were great as far headers go on DD.

If you are not goin for every inch of performance, the rams are great and you will burn up less stuff includin your fingers.

If you are not going for pure performance, you should be alot happier with manifolds, I like the looks of headers, but they really are alot of problems, underhood heat, loose bolts, blown gaskets, If you don't mind wrenching there O.K., But I would rather drive my truck than work on it !!

I've had headers on 2 of these trucks and have been blessed with zero problems as far as gaskets go. I did have to wire up a remote solenoid for the starter though.

I put a set of Sanderson headers on my truck. Installed per instructions with black silicon, no gaskets, no leaks for two years, very happy.

Headers have come a long ways in the past few years. With ceramic coating and header bolts like super 8s, with thicker gauge metal material. Leaking exhaust are becoming less of a problem. You might look at some block hugger headers. But check and see if they don't dump right on top of the engine mounts.
As for heat, the stock cast iron exhaust manifolds, will retain much more heat under the hood, than ceramic coated headers will.

Plug wires, again checkout some of the streetrods. New and better wire guides are available that protect the wires and look really cool.
In the end, try out whatever you like. You can always change it later.
Where you looking for Chevelle headers due to the truck being slammed?

Ditto here on the Sandersons from ECE. They run much cooler than the full length Hedmans that were on the truck when I purchased it. No more plug boot/wire melting issues. Tucked the pipes next to the frame and through the center crossmember and couldn't be happier. No leaks either.

I agree with others, you most likely have headaches with cheap headers. Go with very nice headers like the Sanderson's or stay with the rams. However, for the minimal gains that a $400 set of headers will give, I don't consider them worth the investment for myself. They look great, and I were building a show car/truck they would be must, but for a driver, the horns are the way to go, IMO.

you 1st asked about 3/4 length headers from a chevelle, would they fit. I just installed a set on my buddies 69. They are not a simple bolt on, they required switching motor mounts (and the brackets they mount to), we had a junk 85 chevy pickup to use for our parts. We were switching motors, so swapping out the mounting plates/mounts was no big deal. The reason we had to change the mounts, was that the front tube on both sides would make contact with the motor mounting bracket. I'd post a pic of installed motor if I could figure out how to....lol.

Thanks for the info! I think I will try the Rams first! I do plan a 5.3 install down the road so I will save some money for now.

I'm with vectorit. I've had full length headers for some time with no problems. But it's just not easy to route the plug wires around them or work around them. As soon as I find a set of corvette rams I'm tossing the headers and putting in a new exhaust system.
