My 67' LWB small window project truck

Hey guys. I figured i'd post a thread updating you on my project truck.

A little background...

I'm 16, I currently drive a ranger but I purchased a 1967 LWB fleetside C10 complete with all of the patch panels in running shape for $1000. I am rebuilding it for my senior project.

I have experience in welding, fabricating and some bodywork because I also race motocross and my brother, my dad, and I all race Xtreme Stock cars on the dirt oval. I helped build two of our cars, a Camaro and a Malibu.

I have been racing motocross for 12 years, and it is pretty much the center of my life (for the most part).

I was told the cab is virgin, and has never been touched (minus a pathetic attempt at a patch job)



I've got all of the patch panels (both cab corners, both rocker panels, inner rocker panel, and front and rear cab floor supports), along with cab mount kit, matching locks/ignition (yes I kept the originals), and a few other misc. parts. Also included with the truck was an extra set of brake/reverse lenses, the original manual, and an original complete V8 dash w/ all of the gauges and wiring harness.

I have some of the plans (mostly in my head) on what i'm going to do.

I do have a couple questions, along with a small update.

First- If i'm going to do a frame-off restoration, would you recommend bracing the cab when I take it off? Will the cab flex much?

Second- Does anyone know a good boneyard in southcentral PA with any LWB steel or wooden floor beds?

Anyway, today I had a couple hours to "mess around" and I decided to start on something simple- so I started with a fender well... the guy that had it before me was going to use the bed only, and he mashed it all to heck trying to straighten them, so i've started on them... its slow progress, but I want to do it right the first time... BTW-I dont have much experience with a hammer and dolly, i've only straightened the body on our race cars a couple of times... Below the orange line is where I have already straightened.

I am very open to suggestions and places to look for parts... If you are in the PA/MD/NJ area and know of places to look for stuff.

By the way-i'm 16 right now and most of the work will be done myself with alot of help from my dad. I still think my dad is nuts for offering to help with my project, because like i said, i'm building it for my senior project which is due spring 08'.

Not much to update on, other than its getting COLDER here and not much work will get done for at least a week (Brothers RX-7 has developed a "small" knock... he didnt find it too funny when my dad said to just turn the radio up and the knock will go away...) So I guess its time to get rotarted and fix that thing!

sadly, not much progress still. Lets just say with school (attempting to maintain a 3.0) and christmas (and dont forget the girlfriend) . So anyways, one update has come in...


KA POW! (i just wanted to say that...)






$500! Rebuilt 350 w/ headers, remanufactured starter, clear title, 3 speed and 4 speed manual in the bed, etc etc. I cant wait to pick it up the 2nd!!!

Oh and I am also being side-tracked with motocross... training every day plus trips to North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, etc take lots of time out of my schedule

I'm getting a little worried my project wont be anywhere near completion by this time next year for my senior project... Hopefully I can get lots more time to work on it during the summer since I wont be doing much other than motocross, family, and girlfriend type things.

FINALLY--an update!

Since my last post, we picked up the 69 which is in pretty bad shape (as far as body and such). alot of the truck was SKETCHY-1/2 tightened bolts, missing bolts on the engine mounts, etc etc. But the motor is pulled out of it right now, so thats good!

I also got to work on the 67' today, it was just me working alone and I think I got a good bit done in 3 1/2 hours of work... I know most of the stuff at 16 but i cant wait to learn more. Only thing I got stuck on was when two of the nuts that are welded onto the grill that run along the bottom came loose. Luckily my arms are thin enough I could reach inside the grill and hold a 1/2 inch wrench and hold the nut and get the bolt off. WHAT A PAIN!

Sadly, I also noticed a bunch of rust on my right fender along the very bottom while I was messing around underneath, but there wasnt as much rust as I was thinking would be on a truck of its age.

I will upload pics soon, when my computer isint taking a dump on me!

Anyways, I got to work on it today, I worked from 4:30 till 7:30 by myself and AHHH I need to find a better way to remove the bolts on the inner fenderwell without breaking the nuts on the inside loose. I didnt run into many problems with breaking the nuts loose until I went to the bumper and fender bolts, which has kinda been nice.

On the Motorcross, Do you ever get to the Muddy Creek Raceway here in Blountville Tn. I am a rocks throw from the track.

Yeah, inline 6 for now, but i've got a 350 that im going to stick in, I just have to rebuild the carb and install my nitrous...

I dont see much work getting done today, I have to get some other stuff done. Tomorrow is a no-go also, my brother has the car races tomorrow so she'll have to sit until friday it looks like, unless something else comes up.

alright well not much got done today... I cant pick the hood up off my truck by myself (hood is already unbolted, it is just laying in its place. I'm not either tall enough or enough leverage haha. I did get a parts inventory of everything I have, though so I know what I need.

And yes! I made it to lorettas! I'm so stoked-its still pretty surreal. I went 17-CONSI-1-3-2 for 7th overall (last qualifying spot). I talked to alot of people and no one has ever heard of anyone making it out of the regional qualifier after going through the CONSI. consistancy prevailed, and I made it. I had to go to Georgia to qualify, which is considered the hardest region to make it in... I dont think a kid from PA would be able to hang with the south, but I know I left alot of people scratching their heads!

Hey guys, worked on the engine a little today, and I also cleaned alot of the grease and grime off the frame. I installed my Crane Cam, lifters, polylocks, and i'm waiting on gaskets. I have an RPM Performer intake and Holley 600cfm carb, also.
