E-Stopp Emergency Brake

Has anyone on this site installed, or is planning to install the E-Stopp Brake system on their C10? I plan on doing that on my '68, then use the parking brake handle as a hood release handle.

I want to keep the parking brake handle because it is something that nowadays is such a rarely seen thing. It really gives the interior a unique look.

Hi 68C10, I installed one on mine. Pretty easy setup, I have a rear disc conversion with the Buick riviera calipers and universal rear cable kit.
What questions did you have?

I was mostly curious as to if there were any issues you had to deal with in order to get the E-Stopp to mount/interface with the brake system. Did you use the existing parking brake set-up? I see you mention using universal cables...

I also want this as a security measure as well, but as we all know, anything security wise can be bypassed if you know the vehicles well enough. Did you go with the push button, or key set-up?

Pics are kind of big so I’ll do each separately. Push button mounted in dash above original pull handle. Just made wiring easier for me.

Used the template that comes with the E stopp to locate and weld bolts to my frame. Just long enough to run what I needed to behind the body of the brake actuator.

From the E stopp setup to the universal cable block is pretty easy. I left plenty of cable for adjustability and to see if there was any play in the system. I do plan on trimming up a little still.

From the cable block attached to the E stopp I anchored the universal system to the driver side rear frame support. Larger self tapping screws for now but plenty of room to use bolts if needed.
Pretty much it from there. Just run the park brake cables to each caliper and adjust tension. I have tested in the garage but my truck isn’t running yet. Still finishing up the Holley terminator X wiring to the LS swap. Should be rolling in a week or two.

Forgot the security part of your question. I suppose anyone could still just slip under the truck and cut any one of the cables. Same as factory cables. The advantage I saw in this system was more of eliminating the handle pull lever or the foot lever. I have a 67 small window cab on my 71 so getting rid of the handle helped me clean up that foot well.

72again4x4, that is a very clean install. I like how that is laid out. I am planning on hiding the button on my truck, so no one knows it is there. Once the E-Stopp is installed, I am going to repurpose the parking brake handle to use at the interior hood release. I like the look of the handle, just emphasizes the vintage look of the truck. Here is what the interior is shaping up to look like on my truck, still a work in progress. I am going to repaint the steering wheel to match the interior.

No emergency stop test yet. Still finishing up the engine wiring. Won’t be on the road until next week or two.

I will be beginning the frame restoration in a couple weeks, hopefully I will be making the E-Stopp purchase in January and get that installed/set-up on the frame.

I would assume it will remain engaged if the brake was set before the battery died...not sure, great question. I will have to ask the company that. When I get a reply I will post the answer.

So here is the answer they had in their FAQ section:

Q: What happens if my battery dies for other reasons while the brake is engaged?​
A: The unit remains engaged until it receives power again.

So if the battery does die, and you need to move the truck before getting a new battery, you can always use jumper cables or a battery charger to supply power to disengage the E-Stopp.

AHhh... evidently set up internally/electrically with a latching solenoid, that makes sense.

When I've had to use the E-Brake/Hand Brake as the only brake, after having lost the main brakes, it was necessary to feather the pressure to slow down and eventually stop ( thus preventing lockup of the rear wheels ). With the E-Stopp, is it possible to do this or is it full on/off only?

I’m going to install this on my k5. I believe the system has a mechanical stop once engaged if I remember right.

The E-Stopp slowly applies the brake, so maybe that will work. The manufacturer's website has a video of the unit working as an emergency brake.

I am just looking for this as a parking brake/anti-theft feature.

I'm considering this for my 67 since my parking brake is currently disassembled. This looks like a clean way to reroute cables and remove the interior handle.

My experience is still limited. I only installed it for the parking brake aspect. To another point made in this thread, it has a screw gear that slowly engages the brakes and probably wouldn’t amount to much in an emergency situation.
I’m still working on my truck so haven’t tried it in that way yet. Holds tight when parked in my driveway and doesn’t budge.
For the power out or dead battery, it gives an annoying and constant tone letting you know the battery power is getting low. As for disengaging, you do have to jump or charge your battery to get it to work again.
