older 4x4 fr. solid axle tire wear ?
I have a 89 jeep cherokee and is my first 4x4 but I have outer tire wear starting to show up on the fr. Did the string thing wheel alignment and was OK. I noticed on other older trucks with a solid fr. axle that when they turn, the tire sorta tucks in as they turn so I was wondering if this normal and why I,m getting outer tire scrub and wear.

high caster can cause camber to go very positive on sharp turns. Compound with incorrect wheel back space and the tires can scrub excessively when turning

The old Chevy solid axle 4wds will "cup" the front tires but nothing like you describe. So I think you have something wrong There's a really good "Jeep Cherokee Forum" out there so you should probably join and ask your question there as those guys know those things inside out and backwards. Also, if your Jeep is lifted then you could have all sorts of problems. The Cherokee has a completely different sort of suspension with coil springs and control arms and trackbar.

I'd take it to a alignment shop...they can tell you what's going on

I ,m going to take it to a alignment shop but didn,t want to spend a $130.00 to find out is normal type wear and of course they will do the alignment and charge me. Just checking first to see if this a normal old 4x4 thing.

Just make sure it's an alignment shop that actually knows anything about these types of vehicles.

Rotating every 5,000 really matters on a solid axle 4wd, with the front end all set correctly. Your observation of the tires canting is typical.

Re: older 4x4 fr. solid axle tire wear ?
Good luck on that one. No more old school guys running shops no more ,same with parts people. Gotten screwed on align. shops before with they set in on the rack and doing a alignment and not checking if there is another problem to cause the issue.
