Things your spouse (or ex) does that bug you

My wife ( and several Ex wives) have always done this.

Tell me to hurry up. We're leaving in 10 minutes. And that I need to hurry up and get ready.

I'm ready in 9 minutes... Then I sit there and wait 20 minutes for her to get ready. Grrrr.

My first wife always ordered a small drink. I always ordered a large.
Without fail she would run out and want some of mine. I would tell her that I would have bought her the larger one. But she insisted on ordering a small drink every time. Then she would always hit me up for some of mine. Maybe she did it on purpose because she knew it ticked me off. She was kind of mean. She tried to hit me in the head with a sledge hammer once and she wasn't kidding. I had to tackle her in the yard. I'm sure that the neighbors were entertained. She was a handful. But she sure was was cute.

Re: Things your spouse (or ex) does that bug you

When I was married and raising my kids we had the '71 camper truck. I always liked to take off for my weekend trips on Friday after work, get to the destination, campfire meal, and wake up for a full day at the wonderful place we traveled to. Once I got with her it was leave on Saturday, hopefully by noon, get there in time to fix dinner and go to bed.

I always get up at 5. She and the kids slept late. "I want to leave as soon as we get up tomorrow. We can eat breakfast on the road". Great! But I know she doesn't mean at 5. So I go out and pack the camper with all the gear for where we are going, stock food, everything but their bags of clothes, give the truck a once over, top fluids. I go to wake her up around 7. "Ok, I'll get the kids up". Shouldn't be long now, right? I double check on what I packed, think of things I forgot, go in and check, still asleep. I wake her, "We need to get going. The day is moving on", her, "Ok, I'm getting up". By now I'm about pacing, so I give the truck a good wash... looks great! Go in and check. They are stirring about, "Almost ready?", then back outside to do something like pull weeds or put things in order to keep from going stir crazy. Still no one outside yet. Finally, she comes out and says in an irritated voice,
"Are we going? I thought we were leaving early!"

"Yes. I've been ready for hours"

"When were you going to come in and let us know?"

"You have to come outside to leave"

Re: Things your spouse (or ex) does that bug you

Sounds very familiar. I tell my wife...when you are ready to walk out the door let me know.....then I'll take my shower, shave and finish getting ready. If I want to leave at say 10a, I'll tell her no later than 9. That way we get to leave almost on time, very so often a little earlier...shock.

Re: Things your spouse (or ex) does that bug you

My wife is the one who has to be early to parties. I worked on pulling ethernet cables all day Thursday, and didn't get a shower until almost 1 PM. Then I had to do laundry. We "had" to be at the client appreciation dinner at 5:30. She normally gets off work at 4:30 but took off early and called me so that I'd be ready when she pulled up, and I could hobble out to the car. I told her that the laundry wasn't done (can't show up wearing only a barrel on suspenders) she started getting upset. I told her, "It's a party, there's no death sentence if we're 5 minutes late!".

Once, we went to a niece's birthday party. The wife wanted to leave in plenty of time in case of traffic. I'm telling her that if we were a few minutes late, the niece is only going to notice the present, anyway. We showed up 20 minutes early, and my SiL, who is always last minute with things, put my wife to work. She was grousing about it on the way home, and I just said, don't show up early, problem solved.

We adopted a baby girl from Guatemala (our only child). My wife has slept with her every night since we got her at 4 weeks old. She is now 12- wife doesn’t see a problem. Nice to be able to share it with you guys (think I’ve only told a few people)

Re: Things your spouse (or ex) does that bug you

My wife and I have been together since 1988. Lovely, sweet woman who takes care of me in every way except one......the woman cannot cook at all!!!! If I want something actually cooked and prepared home style, I gotta ask my 75 year old mom or get in the kitchen and cook it myself. So I must say that I have learned to fry deer steaks, chicken, squirrel, and fish just like mom does. I can whip up a mean pot of turnip or collard greens n cornbread. I can make great mashed potatoes & real gravy and my pecan pie rivals my grandmother's.....a dash of cinnamon and a jigger of whisky was her secret! Wifey makes no attempt to want to learn or help, but she always washes the dirty dishes and she is appreciative and complementary when I do whip up something good.

My wife leaves the caps off of her bottles all the time, dog walks by and knocks it over with his tail. Keeps happening.

Every time we have to be somewhere she spins herself up tighter and tighter as the earliest departure time approaches. I'm always causing us to be late in her eyes because I'm not spinning at the same rate, which usually involves me realizing I don't need to start doing anything...yet.

Re: Things your spouse (or ex) does that bug you

Hey, I've been married to the same woman, for 48 years next week. If you are going to stay married that long, you can't let things bug you. That may be more in her ball park though since,

I have never done a load of laundry,
Never changed a diaper,
I don't do dishes,
Don't do house work,
don't make up the bed,
Hell, I don't mow her yard,
and
She is a stellar cook,
The house looks like a magazine picture most of the time,
She is very thrifty,
She has never told me not to buy a vehicle.

She lived in some pretty shabby places in the early years, but with her help, by 1980 we had no debt. We built a very successful construction company that we started with $1,500 in 1980. The company kept us broke most of the time in the beginning, but she hung in there.

Don't get me wrong, she chews my ass on a regular basis, (My father in law said once that I wasn't happy unless I had her growling.), but if you say anything negative about me she will rip your head off and stick it where the sun don't shine.

The one thing that bugs me: She don't like to travel.

I'm blessed to have married a best friend. She says all she got in the deal was a spoiled brat.

I envy you guys that found a good woman right off the bat. It took me over 40 years to get there. To finally get it right.

Flashed. Sorry about your wife. I can only imagine how tough that is.

Re: Things your spouse (or ex) does that bug you

We were always rushing to not be too late or ending up late to functions where it mattered. She always did nothing in preparation, then a frantic "hurry up we gotta go! We're going to be late!". It seemed when it came to going to a family function, like 4th of July or Mothers Day cookout, it was a matter of life & death that we be on time. She'd be all wound up yelling at the kids, everything in a panic. I remember saying so many times, "It's not like we have to be in court or a funeral" and "Settle down, relax. We're supposed to be enjoying this", "Cookouts are for fun".

Seriously, though - she and I have been together for 41 years.

I absolutely enjoy being with her. She's a deep, deep thinker and I love the serious conversations and memories and inside jokes that only she and I share.

I told her the other day: "you know how people comment that things that used to be cute now bug them? To me - it's still cute".

My ex-wife only bothered me when she was crazy. It was mostly good the rest of the time.

I get home, she realizes she needs more milk to complete the meal, gives me heck for not calling to see if she needed anything. Things like that. I should have said "If I knew you needed something I would have called"

Re: Things your spouse (or ex) does that bug you

Ex would always let the phone charger plugged in after she removed her phone. I asked repeatedly to remove the charger from the receptacle - never happened. I even showed her pictures of fires from this. Pretty sure she did it because she knew I hated it. One of the many reasons we are ex’s. Like someone said earlier, can’t let the small stuff bother you - no body is perfect.
