$50K Blazer?

And it's not all that stock with an unrestored (and unpictured) top. You could eat off that frame and undercarriage though if it were flipped over. Right now it's at $34K with a day and a half left to go. Price trend barometer or a peeing contest between a couple of bidders?

I've seen it too, kinda been wondering the same thing. Being I already own a pretty original CST, I'm hoping the market has just skyrocketed. But then again, I think I'm more likely to buy another one than sell mine. Conflicted.

Maybe if it was done with all NOS parts, I just couldn't see paying that much for the poster child of LMC/Counterpart. Very nice looking though.

It very well might end going for $50k. It does look really nice and someone definitely put the time in. Anyone else notice that even the body above transmission is clean and painted? I wonder how long it will stay like that.

Has anyone actually seen a 69-72 Blazer or Jimmy sell for $40 grand? Although this one didn't hit reserve I'm wondering if it is still a new price record for an amount that someone was theoretically willing to pay for a 1st gen Blazer or Jimmy.

Me personally, I think the Blazer would have brought more if it was really 'restored' to orginal not customized with crappy front seats, aftermarket air etc etc. A little lift and some bigger tires would be as far as I would go... and I sure would have restored the top too.

Thats sad what you guys are saying, I have way more than 50 into mine in just parts, and if I do choose to sell it some day, hopefully its not to one of you. The way I look at it there is a buyer for everything out there, they will pay the price asked.. How much do you think that was to build???

The previous owner of this orange blazer was this guy from Iowa he has a company called American dream machines admcars.com He has done
some nice blazers in the past and now also has a 71 k5 blazer on his lot for sale
He has built rides for the stars. One famous star being KID ROCK had purchased a k5 blazer from this guy (see photos ) on his site. If I'm correct I think he had it for sale for 35.000 being said this guy might of bought it maybe for around 33.000..... :/ here is the pic Im sure is the same truck

I think it's pretty cheesy that for $40, or $50K, the top wasn't done. That's just not suitable in my book. Something like that will make me move on to the next one.

You can spend wads of cash on a vehicle, but you'd best be planning on keeping it. You can flip an old Shelby, Ferrari, Duesenberg, or Yenko Camaro. It's got to be a car of that ilk for it to happen, though. Otherwise you're doing it for yourself.

If it has to be sold, while there may be one person out there who would buy it, you need to know how many of those people there are and have the cash- and of all the people that will look at it, how many will like what's been done to it?. Especially if it has a ton of mods- so someone would need to have a buyer with the same tastes. Your chances will improve on getting money out of it if you take back to something like stock. The market is much bigger for that.

Man, I'm not all that surprised at 50k. Have you all seen what early Bronco's are bringing these days? It's such a double edged sword - As a hobby guy who just loves these vehicles for what they are, and works for a living, I don't like to see it. It's what drove me out of owning, restoring, and racing GTO's. However, since I do own one of these vehicles, I'm glad to see that they do have some value. I can't help thinking that if they were only worth say 5k, I could have more than one, though!

Could a similar Blazer be built for less than $50k? I say yes. Not bothering to redo the top, replace/add rear panels/panel trim, repair cut doors and the probably cut dash, or locate missing OEM pieces like the rear carpet strip and door panels helps keep "restoration" costs down. Unless I missed it, the seller doesn't claim the axles were rebuilt either. It's pleasing on the eye and I'm sure lot of effort went into the truck but a potential buyer could locate a better value in my opinion.

When I had mine appraised for insurance, a 72 blazer that was fully restored with every new bolt and everything that never saw the road was worth only 18,000 in the insurance companies eyes.

But then again who would have ever thought some of the muscle cars from that same time frame would be getting 6 figures now. It used to take perfect restorations to get big bucks but a lot of the really high dollar cars these days in Mecums and Barrett Jackson auctions are resto mods. I personally think it's too middle of the road for big bucks, it's clean but a lot of paint where replate should have been done, engine bay too OEM, wheels are too personal, U-bolts aren't cut, I don't really have a problem with the seats, but that's me. Is it worth that? Maybe, but as a driver it would lose half it's value in 10,000 miles, as it would if it was perfectly restored at that price.

I will say though, if you found a very good Blazer it would cost you $20-25K, and if you took it all apart and made it as clean as that you'd easily be at $50K if you did a lot of the work yourself. There is a shop here in So Cal that does Bronco restorations and they charge that if you bring them a pretty good shell to start with. There is another shop in Alabama that does Land Rovers, similar story. IMHO 1st gen Blazers are way under valued compared to what some of the other cars of that era go for. You can't buy much that's topless and clean from before 1972 for less than $35-40K.

My thoughts exactly and one of the hopes that sustains me as I write checks for my resto shop and parts suppliers. Despite the deficiencies they bring from the era in which they were made, 1st gen Blazers and Jimmys are sophisticated vehicles compared with Broncos, Scouts and Land Cruisers, plus they are convertibles (sort of). They also have a clean, attractive yet rugged appearance that still seems fresh 40+ years after.

OK, I'll certainly give you clean, attractive and rugged, however I don't think you can really apply sophisticated to a vehicle whose design is kind of like one of those fold over things like they used to have on the back of MAD magazine done to a pickup and then the roof erased.

I mean you have to admit it's almost like a couple AMC designers filled in for a week. You know the guys who created things like.. hey, if we take the Javalin and just chop 2 feet out of the middle of it, it's sort of kind of like a Camaro...or a Mustang... yes exactly like that, we could call it the exparemental, err, wait American Motors eXparemental... or AMX... ooo I like that... Call Bob on the line and have him cut one up. A year or so later, Hey we need a sub compact hatchback.... Hey call Bob have him grab a Hornet body, I have an idea....

I think you are underestimating the unsung GM marketing genius who figured out that trucks could be a lifestyle vehicle rather than merely a conveyance for hay bales and 2 X 4s. If they could economically alter an existing production vehicle to carry that off then so what? The results are history.
