Speaker Placement Idea

Instead of putting kick panels in my 77, I was considering something else. How about 6.5 component speakers with the woofers in enclosures behind the seat, and the tweeters on the corners of the dash pad ? I'll have a good amp driving these.

There is also the stock center speaker location where I could mount a pair of 3.5's with the tweeters disabled to provide a little extra high mid detail if any is lost from having the 6.5 woofers behind the seat. I'll only do this extra step if I feel it's necessary. I'll have these high passed at 600Hz.

I'll have a subwoofer too but thats a whole different thread. I just want to get my speaker placement done so I can install the head unit and amp.

Re: Speaker Placement Idea

Just go for the kicks.

Placing the speakers behind the seat will suck, plus, placing the mid and tweet that far apart is a no-no for sound quality. You can go with the 3.5's in the center, but this could ruin your sound image and staging.

Re: Speaker Placement Idea

If you go with the center speaker idea, only use one speaker (small round) and use the negative from the left and the positive from the right. It is called a ghost channel. That is actually how home theatre audiphiles used to better their sound stage and fill in the front before seperate channels became more popular (and more affordable). Also, you should really put the tweets on the same plane as your mid drivers and put them as close together as possible. If you don't mind cutting your dash, I would put (3) 3-1/2" two ways in the dash and 6 or 6-1/2" mid drivers in the doors as high as possible.
