New guy from North Jersey (with pics)

Hey all, I finally decided to join rather than being a guest forever. Ive learned a ton from you guys already just from reading other posts. Its also cool to see all the young kids and high schoolers gettin into these awesome trucks too (I'm 23) But here is my 68 c10swb fleetside. Sorry for the crummy cell phone pics, but my lovely girlfriend left my camera outside and well..rain happens. Anyway, she's Bagged and Z'd with everything custom from the cab-back. She only has a 305 out of a camaro for now, but that will change eventually. She's sitting on some rather ugly 20's that are being used as rollers but that will change too. I have a fuel cell in the frame, shaved filler door, and the extra leg room is great especially with the small body drop. The bed is the worst part about the truck and im not even sure if i can save it at this point, so will soon be weighing my options with that.

My last project was a body dropped 84 c30 dually that layed pinchwelds, but I wanted to do something a little less radical and keep the rockers off the ground this time. (if only an inch or two) Like most of you I'm sure This is being home-built on a working man's paycheck so, progress will be slow going but I'm having fun and always learning. and that's what counts. I dont wanna overload my first post, so if you have any questions, go ahead and ask, and Ill start working on finding a new camera.

Its nice to see a fellow nj guy. Im sure there's plenty more on here, but my area is seriously overtaken by fart cans and spoilers. We need less neon and more old iron. Unfortunately I dont see too many pre-73 trucks around here

Sweet ride!

Did you shave that front roll pan to the fenders and grill?

Re: New guy from North Jersey (with pics)

the front pan still needs to be welded to the fenders once I start doing more of the body work. you can see the seam in one of the pics.

Re: New guy from North Jersey (with pics)

thanks guys, but trust me she looks way better in pics than up close. the body is off an older build, so they paint is chipped and faded, not to mention some of the metal work was not so professionally done to put it nicely. Im in somewhat of a tear down mode now, redoing just about everything I can to fill in those "corners" that were cut before. Im not trying to make it a spotless show winner at this point but just a cleaner looking, and just as important, more reliable cruiser.

Re: New guy from North Jersey (with pics)

Welcome Bucket...that sure looks like a clean, reliable cruiser to me...even w/o the bed on it. And don't concern yourself with making slow progress, I've had my truck for going on 14 yrs.,and I haven't gotten to the clean "40 footer" stage, much less even reaching my goal of having a decent "20 footer" someday.

Re: New guy from North Jersey (with pics)

Its awesome how long some of you guys have had your trucks. Thats what im looking for here since all the other trucks ive built, Ive always traded away right when it was ready for paint. As far as the reliability, Im working on ditching the spaghetti under the dash and reworking the suspension now. I swear one of these days Im going to build a truck with coil springs and can stop pulling my hair out with blown bags and lines on the side of the highway.

Nice Truck, I haven't been a member long but I'm curious about your consol and seats. Was it custom made or somthing you pulled from something else? Anyway its what I think looks nice. Good luck on your build.

Re: New guy from North Jersey (with pics)

zicc1835..Im always up for hangin out and turnin some wrenches. Whippany's not far at all.

And Olds-kewl.. I pulled those seats out of my buddy's falcon and he couldnt remember what they were originally out of. As for the console, it is 3/4" plywood. The curve was achieved with 1/8" Kerf-core flexboard. Its laminated with fiberglass for strength and obviously real flexible. I put a full length hinge in the center so I can access my air valves and eventually speakers. I can shoot you some more pics of it if you want since ill be taking it out this weekend to work on some wiring.

That would be great Bucket, I really like it. I just did a 51 Studebaker truck somthing like that, but I covered it with Black carpet. Yours looks so much better. And thanks again

Re: New guy from North Jersey (with pics)

its a fleetside. I have a primered bed thats welded shut but it's in bad shape. everything but the last foot of the bed probably cant be saved, but I will be cutting off my tailgate skin and rollpan. I just need to decide if Im doing a complete repop bed, cuttin a longbed, or keep searching for a somewhat decent shortbed which is most unlikely here in the NorthEast.

Olds-Kewl.... I sent you a PM about the console pics you wanted
