Talking Cleaned parts of my garage and found

My wife has been after me to clean out the garge so tonight I cleaned out 1/3 of my garage and these are some of the parts I found in boxes. I also found 3 factory sliders and another 3 sets of factory mirrors. Maybe I need to take inventory before I buy. I only have one truck.

Yep...looks like I have about 5-6 sets. Maybe a little excessive for 1 truck

Gee, my wife feels the same way. She's afraid I'll croak first and will turn over in my grave when she throws all the treasures out. I keep telling her what some of the stuff is worth, but...

Re: Cleaned parts of my garage and found

I know what thats like, my dad has a 72' Cheyenne sitting in the corner and the bed is full of parts, along with the cab, the wood rack above the truck, etc... Going to suck when he wants to pull the truck out because I'll have to find a new spot for all my extra parts!!

Thats a good way to look at it.

I have been buying parts off and on for a number of years w/o keeping an inventory on the parts. Now that the Circuit Rider is mostly finished (we really don't ever get done ) I need to take an inventory of all the other leftover parts and then I'll put them up for sale in the FS forums.

I still have the other side of the garage to go through yet.

Re: Cleaned parts of my garage and found

I see it as normal gathering for a restore. You gather up,then weed out. If you find what you want in mint condition, that's one thing. But usually you grab what you can until you end up with the best condition. Doesn't hurt to have spare parts, either. Stuff happens and later on down the road you may need a repair or replacement and if you're in it for the long haul you know in the future it only gets harder (and more expensive) to get replacements. Have a bird fly into your grille in that nice restored truck on a Sunday cruise and next thing you know you're wishing you hung onto that grille insert. Someone clips your mirror when parked and you walk up to find a cracked mirror and you'll be wanting a spare mirror head. Once restored, they can still take effort to stay that way. Even a garage queen.

Very good points.

I am going to keep some spare parts that I can use as a back up just in case ...

Again good thought

You and my wife would get along great. She's forever bringing home crap then won't let me throw anything away because "we night need it someday." Forget about the fact it's been taking up space in the same spot for the last six years.

I used to be a packrat, but about 15 years ago I was cleaning out my garage and found some stuff in boxes that had moved from Kansas to Oklahoma back to Kansas then to two different places in Florida without ever being opened.
That cured me of my packrat ways.

Now if it's been sitting around taking up space for two years without being used, out the door it goes. If I need it down line, I'll deal with it down the road.

Re: Cleaned parts of my garage and found

I recently got a deal I couldn"t refuse on a second 70 long box.It needs a few things and I was delighted after looking through my extra parts that I had alot of the things I need "in stock". I'm glad that I didn't get rid of everything now.I was amazed at alot of the parts that I forgot I had.
