Re: Thelonerifes 72 stepper

Check out my build so far like 3 days total work. Of course I had already had the bed for a couple weeks. Check out my build thread. Pics aren't the best since I had to make the resolution less.

Re: Thelonerifes 72 stepper

Well I got the door skin welded up but I still have to crimp my edges. I don't know if you can tell in the pics? That is a little surface rust on the bottom. It will knock off easy. And i have a lot of grinding to do on welds.

Re: Thelonerifes 72 stepper

thelonerife,
Great progress ! Most guys including myself who dont have the skills to do that would get rid of the truck and never dig into her. That is great motivation for guys to try and figure it out by asking here on this board and getting help from local board members. I have found people nearby me on this board that I would never have known had those skills. I see youre in Clarksville Tn. Fun little town I was stationed at Fort Campbell from 96-99 The weather sucks but its a cool little town. Clarksville will have a nice truck when youre done with it !

Re: Thelonerifes 72 stepper

I got very little done this weekend. I know you've probably seen the gold door on my truck . Its a 71 or lower year. I am giving the RUSTY blue 72 door to another board member so he can keep the weather out of his project. So I needed to switch the innerds to the gold door and put the gold door innerds in the blue door. whew!. Got it ready for him to pick up. I am also going to put the screw in the gold door like 72's. Its my ocd kicking in. I know if I didn't I would always say I should have and somebody would say ''hey your doors are different''. Or maybe not whatever. I will weld it in later. For newbees I also snapped a pic of the difference in the 67-71 hardware and the 72. The stems on the 72 are just a little longer to allow for the 72's door panels.

Re: Thelonerifes 72 stepper

I am still kicking around the idea of puting a Harley gas cap on the truck. I took it off the bike and put it in the rubber gromet for the tank. What do you guys think?. I would have to switch the opening on the tank or try to make it threaded. I will eventually go to an underbed tank like my other truck but for now it didn't smell when I filled up so I 'll leave it for when I paint the truck. Give me your opinions??

Re: Thelonerifes 72 stepper

What are your plans for the rest of the truck? I think if you're going for a clean look, the cap doesn't do anything for me. I don't think it's a good fit for the only different, custom-type piece on the exterior of the truck. If you're gonna go all-out different, I think it'll look pretty good. It's hard to judge at this point in your build.
