Wow, what a difference springs make!!
My '72 Jimmy was built with heavy duty suspension. That meant take the same heave duty springs that are used on a long bed half ton and slap them under this poor little Jimmy. It rode like a 5-ton!! Maybe that explains why it only had 70K plus change miles on it when i got it.
Anyway, I put some standard springs under the back of it this weekend and it no longer is trying to break my neck!! Any body interested in a complete set of heavy duty coils?? (I've got a set of h.d. fronts to throw in with the h.d. rears.) |

Here's how:
Standard rear springs are two stage springs in that they have 3 coils in the center that are close together and one on each end that is wider apart than the ones in the middle. I'm guessing that they are made from about 3/4" rod. H.D. springs do not have the two stages to them and are made out of maybe 1" rod (thicker at least).

ha, I just finished taking the springs off of my 2wd, they look fairly new so I guess a PO put them on and wanted to lift it up. The way the Jimmy sat it was higher then my 3/4 ton. I have some 1/2 spring I am putting in to lower it a bit.
Do you have any pics of that 2wd Jimmy? |
