Wow, that porch is really, really nice. I also like the shop too. The different trusses for the lift is very nice too! That will be nice to have for sure!

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

Thanks, we're very happy with the porch... Cost about $7500 installed and it was hand built by a local Amishman. Cost me $300 for engineered plans since Hemlock isn't common building code anymore, the pegs are real as well. It's 16x14

The tray truss was about $500 more so I figured it was worth doing "just in case". A lot of guys run scissor trusses but they work better when you have doors on the eave side instead of the gable side like mine.

thanks... I'm not sure that my truck could still be considered the "money pit" anymore after undergoing three construction projects at once...

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

barn is coming along, I need to wait until payday to purchase a flooring solution...

1. Epoxy (100% solids, no flakes)
2. Waterbased Epoxy (flakes and acrylic clearcoat)
3. Basic Sealer, let it be a normal messy floor

I need to stay under $400 if possible, the first choice is the toughest, second looks nicer but not as tough, third would change the look but would only cost $200 or so.

Thoughts?

In the pics I've bene spreading topsoil, thankfully bu buddy has a nice Kubota that he loaned me for the week, also spread some Apshaly millings for the driveway since $5K for new asphalt isn't happening right now.

I have the messy floor option. works for me. Seems no matter how neat I try to be, I ALWAYs look like a mess and so does my work area.

I guess I am gifted

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

The only issue I have with some of those epoxy floor coatings is they are crazy slippery when wet. A good sealer may do the trick but it seems oil still finds it's way through it. It really looks nice. Looks like your new place is coming along nicely.

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

Thanks... I might just do an epoxy primer which will give me protection, seal the concrete an leave room to make it nicer in the future. You can add anti-skid to most of these products. I need to do a moisture test though, I don't think I have a vapor barrier under the slab so that might shoot the whole epoxy idea.

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

I'm jealous your shop is very cool. my back yard is about half the size of your shop. not having a moisture barrier under the slab their are several concrete sealers that will work to prevent moisture from coming up through the slab. I used David Watercolor W1000 concrete sealer on a couple of jobs 2 coats looks like semi gloss finish. not sure how it would hold up the grease and oil in your shop.

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

Thanks... it took us awhile to find a place with 1 acre that we could afford here in PA. In Indiana I had 5 acres, larger house (just in the boonies) and it cost 2/3rd this price with 1/4 of the taxes! I'm sure CA is crazy $$$ so I'll stick with here or the midwest, might retire in TN or northern AL in another decade so my money will go further.

With all the high tech companies in the bay area home prices are out of control. if your place was close to Google in Mountain View it would sell for about 2 to 3 million. where I live about 1/2 mill now and it is small at 1,100 sq ft house on 1/4 acre . I bought my house in 1993 for $172,000.

floor coated with epoxy primer, that's all i'm doing right now based on budget... should hold up to what I do in there. If not then I can always upgrade to full 100% epoxy and/or urethane clearcoat.
