Re: Went to a Bigger Blazer

Additional grief/bullsh*t.

Changed out the headers to some nice factory vette 2.5" manifolds to simplify stuff. (so I thought)
New manifold, new looms and new wires weren't the total cure.
After only a few miles #6 boot burned through.

On a good note of work up at the shop, I got the overload spring removed and replaced em with a set of zero rates.
Moved the axle rearward 1.5"s and got the wheel/tire centered in the wheel well again.
My wheel-base is now 106"s.

This set of pics show the manifolds, wires and fuel door, both inside and out.

Re: Went to a Bigger Blazer

Done for now...over a year and a half later.

The "gotta do" list was amazingly long considering it was a running/wheeling truck last year but I guess the TBI'd 383 install had a little something do do with it.

My front drive shaft hits my oil filter (okay one more fix) but ya gotta luv suspension travel.

With any luck I can now concentrate on a few "extras".
Wanna get my tube doors done before Rausch Creek coming up in May.
Tree sliders are in the works too.

Thanks for all the comments.

Any more input?

let me know whatcha think.

Nope, I'll spray it with single stage and call it good.

I've always wanted an old chevy truck in Hugger Orange and this may be the one.

Talk about high visibility!

Thanks for the comp YJ.
Tube doors are in the works, ordering a tube notching tool today so I can have one here at home in my basement shop too.
Making the doors out of 1.75 roll bar stock with quick release hinges.

Re: Went to a Bigger Blazer

Yeah, seen Ryan's ride, it's sweet for sure.

Wish I had the time and energy to go full tube chassis but it ain't gonna happen anytime soon.

You could get the paint matched up in green and have it put in cans.

I know my local Napa store can get it done.
Also have a small local chain store that will do it.

Try calling around some stores in your area and see if they offer it.

Re: Went to a Bigger Blazer

You gonna just relocate the oil filter or limit up travel?
You could run a 2 piece front dshaft to help but thats not going to be cheap.

Nothing that drastic.
Just need to run a shorter filter to make everything happy again.

Re: Went to a Bigger Blazer

I've got a big Hell Yea! for ya on the Hugger Orange. Believe it or not, my rig was once that color.... Thats what happens when you buy a project from an indesisive paint and body guy.

Got any new ideas for your rear quarter protection/sliders?? Im actually thinking of cutting out the rear quarters from wheel well height back. I know... blasphemy.

Re: Went to a Bigger Blazer

Fuel cell skid plate is - done/done/done!
Used a stock skid plate from a 90 blazer, totally reworked it but that's what is was in the beginning.
Added a second layer in the middle, figured two layers of 1/8th inch should do nicely.

Covers from the bumper back, no worries about that 10" gap between the tank and the bumper anymore.

"Gotta Do" list is finished, now it's time to move onto the tube doors. (started those today)

That looks like some serious protection, which of course you will put to good use!

Re: Went to a Bigger Blazer

Still going...

Tube doors and rock rings.

Factory hinge plates w/quick release.
Original door latch.
Keeps the integrity of the door opening, same as a full door does.

Re: Went to a Bigger Blazer

Is this something you will be selling? There's got to be a demand for those from the people that get to go offroading.

Might...
If there's a demand, I'd be willing to fill it.

Alot to consider though.
I made sure my door was 'dead on' measurement wise and the doors linged up but if the next guy's door opening wasn't at least close to being correct, they could potentially not fit very well.

The great part about this set up is the fact that it only takes a couple minutes to install.
Once the hinge modification is done to the full size door set, it's all quick and easy.

Re: Went to a Bigger Blazer

That is awesome! It's pretty cool watching this Blazer transform into the ultimate wheeling rig. It's also cool to go back and look at this when you first got it...BTW, where do you find the time to put so many hours into your truck? You're a lucky man.

Nice work!

Rock Ring Pics

Got two of the rock rings welded in and painted this a.m.

Had to take the pics from an angle cause they were invisable from a distance being black on black.

Chevyman, I'm taking some time off from work to get this thing ready for our wheeling trip coming up on the 10th of May.
The guys are working and I'm basically playing bossman this week.

YJ, these tube doors will work/fit on trucks too!
