Stock axle desirability?
Well, I just finished swapping a '02 Yukon axle under my truck, now I have a stock '70 12 bolt with 2" wheel spacers that I don't know what to do with. Anybody need one? I hate to scrap it, but I don't really want to hang on to it either.

Re: Stock axle desirability?
how easy was the Yukon axle swap and what all did you have to modify?

Re: Stock axle desirability?
71stub,
It's not posi and I don't know what the ratio is yet. I need to pull the inspection cover and check... but I'm thinking 3:73. As far as the install of the Yukon rear, I'm going to start another thread about that. Aaron |

Re: Stock axle desirability?
i hope you beefed the yukon axle, if it's a 10 bolt it's a weak S.O.B. you might want to save your 12 bolt just in case. we build a lot of the 10 bolt truck axles at work, i just built one friday that lost the left side carrier bearing completely--the ging gear was barely touching the pinion. funny thing about it was the truck would move in reverse but in drive it was noisey enough to wake the dead.

Re: Stock axle desirability?
Well Jerry,
The newer 10 bolt has the same dia. axle(1.31) and spline(30) as a 12 bolt, so I'm not too concerned. Aaron |
