Re: 1962 Grumman Olson Project

Good afternoon,

Well the weather is getting colder up here and that means I move indoors. I had some spare time this week so I finally got the van fired up.

Things need to be tidied up but here is a video of it running.

I hope to get the driveshaft made next week and then I can finally move it around on its own.

Sounds good man. That is gonna be one helluva ride. Off topic I'm wondering cause I wanna fire mine up. Will it hurt Tranny to run it with no yoke?

Re: 1962 Grumman Olson Project

Well I finally got the Grumman's driveshaft back on Friday, it was hard to sit and look at it all weekend.

This is the season for being busy though...ha.

Got things in place and we are rolling!!!

Check out the video. Anyone know how to embed the video right into this message?

Re: 1962 Grumman Olson Project

Working away making a little progress on the Van...

I removed the steps into the van and am getting some pieces cut up, I hope to get them installed in the next couple of weeks.

After a few nights of staring and trying to decide on color, I grabbed my orbital scuffed a few spots with 80 grit, then some 220 and then some 800 I had around. Then I rubbed some Mothers mag and aluminum polish.

I then hit it with my high speed buffer. I am pretty sure I know what direction I am going in color now... ha. Polished aluminum sounds right!

I am going to order the proper pads and polish bars to do the job properly but at the end of the day I think I am going to be satisfied with the end result.

Re: 1962 Grumman Olson Project

You like bright colours and polished sure would be bright. Anyone who can fully strip a vehicle that size can surely polish it as well. ;o)
I would like to come by and see your projects one day.
Greg.

Re: 1962 Grumman Olson Project

what a cool old truck

edit: thought I was on the previous page sounds like you fingered it out.

red is power, purple is start, pink is "true" ignition (for the coil and anything that has to be hot while cranking) orange is accessory (for anything that turns off during cranking like heaters and radios etc but is on with the key on to the second position) and that small wire I believe is a key sense wire for a bonger.

Not just behind, but anyone driving in front too.
Had a 64 Crysler 300 with the massive front grille, buddies were always remarking how intense the reflected sunlight was in their rear views.

Re: 1962 Grumman Olson Project

Started on the polishing of the Grumman.

Did the side with 80.

I then did a test spot with 240, 400 and 800.

I think I may do a 600 and take it up into the 1000's.

Good start and good idea what the finished project will be.

Just FYI I will be closing in the windows at a later date. I would love to have been there to stop whomever from cutting the holes in it... ha.

Its going to be shiny and will likely stand out... but I think that's what I am going for!

Re: 1962 Grumman Olson Project

Reminds me from years back, girls I dated, HIGH MAINTENANCE!
Just kidding! Will be very cool! I have to wonder how dark tinted windows would look, contrasting the shine? Normally not a big fan of dark tint.
Anyway keep up the good work.

Re: 1962 Grumman Olson Project

Been following from Day one, and keep on grinning........

Now I just have to say, this is going to be so good when you have done it.

Well done for going the extra 100 miles for the polished look.

Will you be lacquering it when you are done??

It was a dilemma for me when I built my teardrop trailer, in the end lazy decided to leave it unpolished and use it as it is. However, maybe one day I will hand polish it as well.
