This was unexpected Blueprint 350

Took out the paperwork today the engine listed on the site at 341 Hp and 371 ft lbs torque. The engine dyno’d at 381 Hp and 427 ft lbs torque.

Yep, I had the same surprise when I bought one of their 400 SBCs. It dynoed out at a little over 550 hp.

That's a nice engine with a lot of torque down low.

It's not to spec. Send it back!

I had a job once where the antenna had "too much gain". We had to add insertion loss to the system. Only time in my life that systems engineering came back not whining about needing more gain.

Keep us posted on that install and outcome. I am eyeing that exact engine for my truck. The little 283 is getting tired and by end of summer I have some decisions to make.

+2 on my BPE motor. The SBC they make are "new" (read not rebuilt). Their blocks are cast in Ohio. Their YouTube shop tour is impressive.

Re: This was unexpected Blueprint 350

Same with my BPE 383 stroker. Site says a lower number than what my dyno sheet says. I also spoke to another guy who has the same engine in his truck and he says his is making even more than mine. It is what it is i suppose.

Not trying to rain on anybodies parade, but my best guess is it's marketing protection.
They put together an engine with some combination of modifications, they estimate about how much power with help from the parts manufacturers and engine builders, they lower that estimate by 5-10-15% or so, and plaster that on their website.

Best case scenario, their customers are elated; worst case they aren't sued for false advertisement.

Most builders will use numbers that are the sum of the parts used . My 496 was advertised at 510 hp it made 540 . Even identical motors have different results I expected a few HP either way but was pleased with 40 hp

Re: This was unexpected Blueprint 350

I’ve had that same engine in my truck for the last few months (about 3k on it) and it drives great, no issues. My #s showed very similar to yours on the dyno sheet.

Re: This was unexpected Blueprint 350

BPE likely advertises their products based on the part combo they will use and advertise that #. BPE does dyno every motor they make and includes that dyno sheet with that specific motor which is often more than the published "advertised" HP. My motor was a dressed long block so it did not have intake, carb but otherwise was a pan to valve cover motor. It was dyno with 600 cfm carb which is what I used. My 355 dyno at 411 HP/413TQ.

I ordered my BPE direct from them and while talking to the representative about what specific brands of parts they used and bearing clearances, he said yes, they all make more than advertised HP/TQ but are only about 5 HP/TQ difference between same combos. I asked to pull the one making the most TQ vs HP out of the lot they had on the floor. I had my motor 4 days later.

Re: This was unexpected Blueprint 350

Another not wanting to rain on the parade, also not saying your motor does not have more power than advertised. You could go to 4 different dynos in one day and get different results from each one. Reality is dynos are good for tuning. I will have my final truck tune done while on a dyno for best results. Only way HP numbers can be compared is if they are done on the same dyno, before and after tune.

Re: This was unexpected Blueprint 350

I understand there are subtle discrepancies in dynos but In my experience they are never off by 10 to15% a couple of of points maybe . I’ve had my Harley tuned a few times several different places doing up grades . Base line is always within 1-2 Hp no matter the dyno I’m on . My last engine was 109 hp at the local shop and when I brought it to Hillside HD. to do few upgrades its base was 108 on their dyno . New carb , polished ported heads with larger valves and cams it came back at 122 hp .

Wasn’t looking for big numbers on this engine

Nice fat TQ curve there! Perfect for a truck, and even most cars that are cruisers.

Nice little engine. Plus you can use a mech fuel pump and they drill for clutch boss for ball stud.

Enjoy... I might get one!
