Wow!?! Man, I bet the inside of your engine is clean enough to eat of off..

I have always changed mine at around 3,000 miles on my old trucks. On my new vehicles, I wait until it's closer to 5,000 miles. I guess it would depend on how you drive it.

I think he means the initial oil change, since the engine has been re-built. I agree with him also. I have always changed the oil after the first 250 or so miles.

Oh,,, I guess you're talking of the first change after a rebuilt... Brain wasn't thinking...

Yes, the first oil change on the engines I've rebuilt has been at around 300 miles.

Re: when should I change the oil?(rebuilt engine)

After a rebuild (consider the rebuild 0 miles); I change the oil & filter at 500, 1500, 3000 miles.
Then it's oil & filter every 300 miles after that.

That's just me, though.

Re: when should I change the oil?(rebuilt engine)

I change mine after the twenty minute break in.Then 300,600,900 (using a supplement if non roller cam). Then regular changes at 3000 or less.

Pretty close to my own routine. I do a 25 minute break-in and immediately change the oil. Then 100, 500, 1000. After that I change it every 3500.

You can run a zinc additive if you have a flat tappet cam but don't run anything like slick 50 or a synthetic oil for the first 10,000.

Re: when should I change the oil?(rebuilt engine)

I always change at 500 on fresh rebuild then at 1500-2000 on the next then go to the regular 3000 change

I didn't get into "break ins".
I was only talking about what I do afterward, FWIW.

When I break in the cam on a new rebuild; I do two each 30 minute "break ins"; engine speed up & down, never constant, then change the oil & filter, X 2.

Then I go to the 500, 1500, 3000 mile oil changes.

Re: when should I change the oil?(rebuilt engine)

My engine is brand new except for the actual block and it has roughly 600 miles and I have changed the oil in it three times so far because of breaking it in, not I am going to change it every 1500 since my truck sits alot...

Re: when should I change the oil?(rebuilt engine)

I change mine after a couple hundred then every 3000 but I always wondered why the manufactures don't recommend this on a new engine.
