one awesome "byrd"

ok guys,i just had to say this,i got a cluster from byrd, needless to say when i got it in the truck,i was super duper staisfied, well,i waited till dark to see how they looked and the numbers could hardly be seen, well,he sent me a different lense(for free)and i swapped em out,and man i feel like i have guages out of a 2004 chevy instead of a 72,my point is,is that this guy is great,i just wanted to take a second to make sure all of you are aware of his work, thanx again randy...mike

Yeah it is,but I think black needles would maybe look better, but no way that you could see the temp, oil,or ammetter at night. Pics of the silver cluster really do not do it justice, I will get some better pics over the weekend before it goes on e bay. Randy

Randy, do you have to take the needles off the gas and speedo gauges to get the overlays on?. They look great!

byrd, what lens' do you use for your rebuilds? I have heard more than one comment about the aftermarket lens'. How many companies make the aftermarket lens' and are there any we should stay away from (in your opinion)? You do have the most experience with these clusters and I am sure most of us trust your opionion.

No, they are cut to slip over . The overlays are nice and they like everything in this world has some variation to them I have gotten some that were not cut right or cut too short, and Durange has always replaced any part that gave me trouble. Randy

Thanks for the compliment, but I would not say that I have the most experience, as they is always someone who's got a trick you don't know
I get this particular lens from ED @ Mothertruckers, Yes some are a little off,but the human factor makes that happen. I don't think they look bad
unless you are doing an original show truck(tralier queen), I have gotten six of these lenses and if you look at the white one really close you can see the oil pressure is not totally perfect, and empty on the fuel is a little off, the tach # aren't perfect. Both the lens and the bezel are aftermarket and from two different manufactors, so they both can attribute to this trouble with things being out of line, the white tach cluster has a cheaper bezel than the silver one. The silver cluster has the same lens as the white one,but it has a much, much nicer bezel on it that is Made in the USA and costs nearly twice as much(get what you pay for) and the lens in it looks really good to me, so I guess the bezel and lens are equally important in making the cluster look almost perfect. The lens in made or from Brothers and so is the Made in USA bezel, by JTM (I think) the lens that looks more like stock(not pictured) is from counterpart, and the cheaper bezel is from them as well. Randy

I just came back in after trying to get pics of the night time clusters, and I wasn't able to get them to show up I have to agree with hilljob( Mike) as to the #'s looking as if they are glowing and if you add white leds to the silver it really makes a cool change of look and the #'s glow much brighter, and the stock 194 bulbs really aren't bright enough imo. The white one with the red and blue leds looked really cool and would be great in a truck with that color interior, Randy

Byrd,
In your e-bay ads you say on a couple of those units that you replaced the resistor on the temp gauge. what resistor did you use and why?

Badcad,
I can't get them to turn out(cheap camera) I am not going to be able to get them. All I can say is that like all my clusters I build, they come with a 100% money back guarantee, so if for any reason you are not happy with one you buy from me just send it back undamagd and in the condition you received it in, and as soon as I get it back I will promtly refund your money NO questions asked!! Well I had to replace the resistor on the temp guages often as their are not that many that work when I get them I use fixagauge.com to get the resistors) I have found that even though some of the temp gauges still works, but it's inaccurate and that's not good, so it a good piece of mind for the buyer and myself. The new resistors make the gauge operate correctly, accurately like they should.....Randy

Thanks Mike you rock as well, I can't wait to get the rear discs on my truck, but between working six days a week and building these clusters, I haven't had the time to even look it all over But being busy is not a bad thing, just no time to work on my truck. You jinxed me anyway , now I have a summer cold after reading your thread about the billet knobs, first summer cold in over 7 years, ..Randy
