Summit Bed Mat is awesome

I purchased the LRV-6642D bed mat from Summit for $69.97 and I'm very impressed with it. It's maybe 4 inches too short up front for my Longhorn, and would no doubt be perfect for a regular long bed. It can also be cut down for a short bed.

It's heavy, grippy, and has a dimpled back that faces the bed wood. Highly recommended for the price. Don't know yet if it'll leave any black marks, I'm hoping not.

Summit: LRV-6642D

I think Summit charges you their "handling" fee because it's under $100 and they add an oversize charge of $8 or something, but it seemed fair.

You can get it for slightly more at Amazon with no extra fees and free shipping as well:

How does it attach to the tail gate?

Re: Summit Bed Mat is awesome

It doesn't attach to the tailgate, nor does it cover it. It just lays on the bed. In the Amazon picture the tailgate has a rubber cover on it also, but that's not part of this (and really shouldn't be pictured like that). I reported that to Amazon.

Re: Summit Bed Mat is awesome

I saw a guy that had a nice bed mat at good guys in his standard size long box. I think he told me he got it at Summit. His had little cut outs just forward on the cab side of the wheel wells. Only thing I could think of was they were there for someone that wanted to mount those spare tire mounts for inside the box,

I don't see the cut outs in the picture from Summit.

Here is another one from Summit. This is a '63 c10. Summit did not have a direct fit so I bought an universal and trimmed the length and around the wheel wells.

Seeing the damage that bed mats/ bed liners do to the beds of trucks I would never leave one in the bed... I would put it in when I needed it and take it out when I am done...

Thumbs up Re: Summit Bed Mat is awesome

Mine has been in the bed for 20 odd years and no damage from it. It doesn't get wet though!

Re: Summit Bed Mat is awesome

I am going to put a box cover on my truck. Probably an Extang Blackmax or Revolution. I am contemplating getting a body coloured Line X bedliner in the truck or maybe I should just get one of these mats. A lot of times you think you want something for your truck and boom, you come on this site and someone has another idea and it gets you thinking.

That's my plan anyway, but what damage? The mat sure doesn't slide around or anything, so what am I watching for?

Well I think you said you have a wood bed... The issues you could run into is Mold, damaging the Finish on the wood from the moisture, Rot, Rust on the strips... Those are pretty common...

Steel Floors just rust out...

I have seen this alot...

Re: Summit Bed Mat is awesome

I know the thread is about the nice bed matt, but if I had a choice I would go with one of the old plastic liners, the kind that stop up underneath the bed rails. I loaned one out and it never came home. I think the member misunderstood lol.

I paint the bed with a couple of coats of rustoleum and toss in the bed liner. Never had a water or rust problem under them. I like the protection and the ability to slide stuff around easily. Secure it when its where ya want it, easy peasy.

I wish I had one for my K20

Hey Dave, is their any way you could post a couple of pics of it in your truck? Curious how they fit since it says they are for 88 and up trucks. Thanks.

Trapped water under the mat. But if you only put the mat in as needed, when you use for hauling, then no issue from any damage from the mat, I don't think anyway. You just need to tie the load down properly and you are good to go. Also, you cannot slide a fork lift load into the bed. You know how they slide pallets. Else the mat is a good choice. I just put a piece of sacrificial 5/8 plywood in my bed. I need a surface that a pallet can slide across. Yes, I too wussed out and decided to protect my newly installed bedwood! But your truck is cherry compared to mine!

Re: Summit Bed Mat is awesome

Putting a bed mat in my '72 K/20 Cheyenne Super Custom Camper with wood floor was the dumbest thing I had done at that time. The first time I removed it I was greeted by rotting wood when it was good and solid original wood before. I realize some trucks spend most time in a garage except to go out on sunny days, but they get washed and there can always be that pop-up shower we didn't expect. I recommend any time there is any moisture involved at all to remove and let the bed and mat get completely dry before putting back. When washing, remove the mat and don't put back till dry as a bone. No moisture escapes. There is also always the possibility of condensation. For these reasons, I will never again use a bed mat, unless it's to drop in to haul something and remve once unloaded. IMO they are a bad idea

Re: Summit Bed Mat is awesome

My bed was pitted bad, plus I replaced about 12" near the rear. I did this over the weekend. Same red as the truck. Mixed 32 oz. clear bed liner to 4 oz. paint. Bottom is black from different can.

Re: Summit Bed Mat is awesome

A couple of pics so you can see where it does and doesn't fit on a Longhorn. I might have it backwards, as there's an extra little cutout in front of the wheels that I figure might be for a fuel fill or something else I don't have.

Not perfect, but for $69, protects the wood for hauling tires and so on.
