My 72 Chevy Stepper

I just became a member and i have a couple questions. First a little about my self I am 15 and a couple of years ago i started going over to my neighbors house every day who has some late 60's 70's vettes, chevelles, and camaros, and in no time I was hooked on the classic Chevy's, but I'm a little bit more intersted in trucks. He had this 1972 chevy stepside truck just sitting there and after much persuading, I convinced him into selling it to me. I've been working on it with my dad for little over a year. When i brought it home I pulled the giant rats nest out of it and went to work taking the truck completly apart. It seems to be going pretty slow, but its just now starting to pick up. We have sandblasted and painted the frame, rebuilt the brakes, and put all new seals in the rearend, and now we've moved onto the cab, replacing the usual rusted sheet metal. But a few week ago I broke my arm, so i'm out of comission for a couple of months. So in the mean time I'm going to learn as much as I can. I have some questions. I want to move the gas tank out of the cab, where can i find some patches for the filler, and a patch panel to fill in the air vents.

and oh one other thing, what are the holes on the side pillers (in the pictures) with the plugs for?

The holes in the pillars are for shoulder harness seatbelts.

Re: My 72 Chevy Stepper

Once we get done with the cab we're going to move onto the bed. Does anyone know where there are some rear stepside fenders/bed for sale because mine are almost completely rusted out.

Re: My 72 Chevy Stepper

Keep looking, you will find one.

I found a real good one in St. Louis last year ready for paint for $500. I had been looking for one for about a year.

Since I needed a bed I put an old '92 bed on it when we put the truck together two years ago.

I was not ready to start restoring the '67 at the time but could not pass up the price since I will need it for my '67when we start the restoration later this year.

Re: My 72 Chevy Stepper

Finally I was starting to think I was the only 15 year old on here with a stepper though mine is a 69 that sucks you broke your arm Ive come close a few time to breaking mine but kept getting lucky. Looks like a nice platform to start with little farther ahead than me on the brakes I still need to swap the disk brakes onto mine. So what is your overall plan for the truck?

Re: My 72 Chevy Stepper

Thanks guys but we're going to buy this one thats in KC. I'll get pictures up as soon as i bring it home.

We decided that we're going to put a 73-87 front end on it because we found some dropped spindles for that year.

Here are some old pics in my first thread on the board here I have recent ones but my computer doesnt feel like letting me upload them so I'll try again later. So far my plan is to swap to disc brakes and lower it a little and drop in the 400 small block that my dads friend built a while back with a th350 backing it up until I come up with some money to rebuild one of the two 700r4 we have just lying around so I can have OD since it will be a DD.
