Question Rebuild 91 k1500 help

I'm stumped on this one, so turning to the board for some help. I recently picked up a 91 k1500 (350 auto 4x4) with a bad driver side head gasket. Found #1 tdc before tearing it apart. Came apart easily and went back together just as easily. Went to fire it up today, cranks easily. It won't fire though. It just blows back through the intake n throttle body. The firing order should be 18436572 correct? Started with #1 pointing at the #1 cylinder and went clockwise. Maybe I have it wrong? Or do I have the valves too tight? Did the tighten go wiggle, then 1/4 turn more method. Anyone have any insight?

18436572 is correct.
The first thing that comes to mind is do you have it on TDC of the compression stroke or the exhaust stroke.

You could turn it over checking for compression coming out of the number one spark plug hole and see if when you get it to TDC the distributor rotor is pointing to number 1 or to number 6 cylinder on the distributor cap.

Re: Rebuild 91 k1500 help

When I put the distributor back in, it (rotor I think it's called) was pointed toward the #1 cylinder so I assumed that was true tdc.

Did you line up the timing mark on the front crank pulley?
How did you make sure it was on the compression stroke and not the exhaust stroke?

The crankshaft makes two revolutions for every one revolution of the distributor. One time the crankshaft lines up with TDC on the compression stroke and the next turn the crankshaft will go by TDC on the exhaust stroke.

The distributor rotor could be pointing at number one plug wire when it should be pointing 180 degrees away at the number six plug wire.

An easy way to see if it is on the compression stroke is to remove the number one spark plug and see if it is blowing air out the plug hole as it comes up on TDC. If not it is on the exhaust stroke and number six cylinder is on its compression stroke.

Number six cylinder is 180 degrees (directly across) from number one on the distributor cap.

Re: Rebuild 91 k1500 help

When they say the rotor points to number one, they mean the position of the contact in the cap, NOT the actual cylinder.

Do you have spark at the plug?

If there fuel getting to the TB?

Are the head ground straps connected?

Just a couple things that popped into my head.
